Omicron is typical of what happens to deadly viruses: they start off with a high death rate, but this prevents them from spreading. Over time, they mutate to spread better, but at the cost of reduced potency.

I was under the impression that people went to Florida to retire because it has good weather, if that is correct then it would mean that Florida has a disportionately higher average age and therefore bigger problems with a virus which is more dangerous to the old than the young.

I’m not concerned about omnicron. In fact, Omnicron is a great indicator that Covid is nearly behind us. Ever since the Chinese released this lab-manipulated contagious virus, it has become a political football, The initial “Covid 19” was really a 2nd gyration of SARS, the government mandated shutdowns have prolonged the period in which the virus normally would of weakened, as politicians took turned blaming each other for Covid 19, or taking credit for the vaccines. The vaccines are still non-FDA, experimental, and somewhat dangerous. The CDCs website admits over 19,000 Americans have died directly in a short period after receiving a Covid “vaccine”. The experimental drugs being pushed by the vaccine industry are not vaccines at all.
The good news is omnicron is about the 15th variant of the original virus produced in the Wuhan lab, and this particular variant produces a very mild illness which spreads fast. This is great news! A weak Covid 19 variant spreading fast through a population, making very few people seriously I’ll, is in fact a de facto vaccine! The faster omnicron spreads, the better. Not at all it’s a lot less deadly the delta or O. G Covid reports and studies show that is 70x more infectious then the other strains but it’s also significantly less deadly it all seems the masks and vaccines we’ve took against the other 2 strains doesn’t work against omicron, People who do get it are experiencing a bad cold, but the death rate (which is what I care about) is almost unheard of because there been only 1 death, or The Omicorn variant has killed as many people as Alec Baldwin.

Omicron is just a weaker version this is what viruses do sometimes. I am at risk and I’m not going to get an RNA vaccine. I have seen many people with problems including covid who have gotten the vaccine. This virus was over publicized in order to ruin an economy , and bring down a populist president by mass voter fraud. After Democratic control was achieved they kept pushing their virus and mandates in order to exert greater control over the population as can be seen in all Democratic strongholds across the country. This happened why the whole world watched. Many countries such as Canada and Australia tried to follow suit. Now they have a problem with their populations. As do the Democratic strongholds. People are fleeing cities and states ran by democrats. When you pay 4 dollars for a loaf of bread you may thank your local democrats and liberals. I am more concerned about the idea that a new variant seems to come out every other month. Then you need a different booster to fight the new thing. I think that one of these days people will have to rely heavily on vaccines to just live. Our bodies will make its antibodies to fight stuff for us. I know that not everyone's body works the same and they may not have any immune system so they really need them. I am not an antivaxer or antimasker. I have M. Complaints about naming aren't really important, though; the bigger issue is that it's spreading faster and was before detection. Anyone with a basic grasp of natural selection will understand what that means: it's less lethal. If it killed MORE, it would spread slower, because a dead host won't spread it to as many people. This variant is less dangerous than the Indian, which was less dangerous than the original. How low does the risk have to be before you stop panicking?
Nope, not in the least. I am vaxed, because I was told that if I did I would be safe. I am no scientist but even I knew not everybody would get vaxed. Even i knew it would mutate. I think a country like India with 1.4 Billion population is totally irresponsible, given size of the country and its completely out of control population growth. Nope, not suggesting anyone goes to jail... but there is a price to pay for freedom. So as an American I totally understand. But throughout history, the human race has endured and so with India. The only people I hear complaining being sick got sick just after being injected, one guy I talked to said he almost died of a hear attack from it. His family warned him not to take it he said, but after the 2nd shot... BAM!
I am concerned for those who have not been vaccinated or cannot be vaccinated or have compromised immune systems. Early indications here are that it is highly transmissible but that the severity of illness is not as bad as previous variants. Let’s hope that proves to be the case for most people.
@ushagomez I've been hearing the same thing. That said let's all understand we don't know exactly yet how much more transmissable and how less severe virulence. So for ex if it's 10x more transmissable and half as virulent that still means more deaths and our hospitals and Healthcare workers need a break. Be safe everyone.
@Friendlybro89. Omicron is 6 to 9X MORE transmissible than Alpha. Delta is 4 to 6X MORE transmissible than Alpha. ALL SARS-COV-2 is airborne so distancing 2m or 6ft AIN'T GONNA DO SH! T!
@Guardian45 Thanks for sharing these stats. I haven't heard these were definitive stats yet as in the findings have yet to be peer reviewed but rather what studies are pointing to but I could of course be mistaken. It's not easy to keep up with everything.
Regardless we should not be taking omicron lightly because we latch onto the headlines saying it's less virulent
Kinda concerned, a lot of people already died by cause of the previous variants and now we have another one.
It's beginning to look like an endless loop. But I know we don't choice but live each day and taking all the necessary measures to avoid getting any virus.
I am a bit concerned because it has demonstrated that it is a quicker spreading variant. However so far, it looks like on the average, it does not cause as severe disease. That is on the average, and there have of course been deaths from it. The vaccines IF BOOSTED show good coverage so far, thankfully. But it is way better if the person has the original series, PLUS the booster.
Humanity has over the millenias known many diseases. No reason the Covid the be the last one of a very long list. So, vaccination taken as a minimum precaution, I don't really care. It's sad for the victims, but let's keep in mind Polio, Aids, Tuberculosis, Lepra, and similar horrors...
I am not worried about it personally. I am not vaccinated and I have had covid prior to a vaccine being available. I was initially but it was more potentially passing it to another vs getting it myself since I’ve worked the whole pandemic with the public.
I'm pretty sure I have Omicron. Not confirmed, but I'd bet on it. So far, whatever it is I have, not bad. Not worried about Omicron. I think it is a saving grace. It is less serious than Delta and shows that Covid is becoming less & less dangerous as time passes. Some will die from it, unfortunately, however the reality is that, were Delta to remain the dominant strain, at some point these same people would become infected and die. Better to risk death with a less deadly variant than with a deadlier one.

Yes and no, this is a horrible virus going around but at the same time the more it "adapts" and changes the more it becomes like a common cold- soon enough it will be a type of common cold and nothing to worry about. The media portray it in a whole different way, most the people passing away haven't had the vaccine or are very vulnerable, or both.
Concerned? you'd be foolish not to be but I thought that before masks and before vaccines that almost immediately need an upgrade. before the press started tying covid to every story, before it was actually considered a thing here, my brilliant beautiful Dr told me it was already mutating and she was decidedly worried. then I was concerned

I had COVID shortly after being vaccinated. Aside from losing sense of taste for a while, experienced almost zero symptoms. Still quarantined as a formality (this was back when many people were still not get vaccinated). I just found out that I was exposed again - not sure if omicron or what. Am I worried? In the UK the CMO is quoting up to 75% effective protection for anyone with a booster jab.
The general trend is Omicron is a milder infection that can be cleared quicker but that's based on early data that doesn't have much info from older people as the origin country generally has a younger population.
New rules in the UK allow anyone who is booster jabbed to only isolate for 7 days if they pass lateral flow tests on day 6 and 7.
My stand is if we can get a handle on the spread of the virus then this might be the varient that will burn out subject to the data being confirmed. So I'll be happy with that.
Covid just seems to be sacrificing strength (slightly) in favour of how infectious it is with every major mutation.
I currently see the positives of Omicron. It is displacing the more dangerous versions of the virus and rapidly. As long as it isn't deadly to vaccinated or morph into a more damaging an contageous strain, it looks like a positive that just causes a light head cold. Once most people have it... we've got herd immunity.
if it is impactful to the un vaccinated or those with damaged immune systems, that is a problem for them and the health system, so it's concerning. An easy solution is the unvaccinated in usa stay out of hospitals to provide space for those who are immune compromised or injured persons. if you are sick, just stay home and get better or die at home in peace.
I'm fully vaccinated, including the booster. I'm 70 and immune-compromised, and wear a mask in public for many situations. I didn't get THIS old by luck! I exercised 'common sense'.

Yes even though it may be less severe, the last one has killed a few people I know and put 3 others damn close to dying, my neighbor down the street might not make it.
I’ve been vaccinated three times and I managed to not get Delta after all 3 of my kids had it, but I’m not going to be able to avoid it forever and having asthma and many respiratory issues in the past, I do not care to find out how well I can fight it off.
Not any more than I have the last couple variants I mean we'll be caught unprotected in the early stages but we'll almost positively gain protectiong through booster shots. Also all the variants are mutating on the basis of vitality which means their potential lethality decreases since you can't spread through a dead host so actually the more the viral the variants become the more optimistic I feel.

Its reportedly less severe than the original version and i know tons of people who got the OG covid and it was just a minor cold or didn't even realize they got it, only an 80 something year old with severe cancer who lived an unhealthy lifestyle is the only person i know who died. So tbh i wasn't worried about OG covid and im certainly not worried about omicron.

No, this is fantastic. It's exactly what you want. You need a variant of the disease that is highly infectious but very mild in it's symptoms. This allows it to race around the world but not cause much damage, while simultaneously creating high levels of natural immunity. Instead of freaking out about this we should all be celebrating
I'm not super concerned about Omicron. While early reports suggest that Omicron spread significantly more quickly than other variants, early reports also suggest that Omicron is significantly less deadly than the other variants. As such, Omicron might be exactly what we need to end this pandemic, provided that the health care system is capable of handling this load--and in some countries, that may not be the case. I would fear for those countries.
Kind of because I personally know someone who’s died from covid… and I know of an entire family who’s died from it.. I believe out of the entire house only 1/2 people survived and there was at least 3 families living on the property.
Not worried at all. It seems to be milder than previous variants. Besides that, I'm fully vaccinated. My life is moving on and while I'm respecting the current measures, I don't let the coronavirus get too much in the way of trying to live a more normal life.
The chances of me having to be hospitalized and then dying are so low it's not even worth worrying about, especially with the less lethal variants rolling out now.
I'm more worried about essential liberties being stripped away, those are far more important than even my own life.
This new variant has the potential to undo a whole 2 years of work and put the world back into lockdown.

And to put this into perspective, the Houston man who died of Omicron, was previously infected with COVID. Although his health was very bad, his prior exposure gave him no protection. Which is about the same outcome as vaccinated people to Omicron. They are as protected as a none-vaccinated person by result, right now.

I think regardless of corona and it's variants of continued troublemaking.. that it's going to be a new time ahead where either this is the new norm or society learns to live around it.
