I have an ASD and that's one of the driving factors stopping me from having children. I mean it's probably more than 50% of the reason I got a vasectomy in the first place.
Cistic fibrosis is when one parent has one gene and the other parent has the other gene. can't be passed on to offspring of the one who has cistic fibrosis. I guess we'll stsrt here... its NOT prevetable or passed on to others.
"An individual must inherit two non-functioning CF genes – one from each parent – to have CF.
If both parents are carriers there is a 1 in 4 (25 percent) chance that both will pass on the non-functioning gene, which would result in a pregnancy affected with cystic fibrosis."
No.. not true. No cure yet , which means its not preventable. Passing it on to other siblings from the same parents , when the parents die , the siblings won't be able to pass it bc they themselfs dont posses the gene. FALSE
An abnormal gene isn't really detectable. And even if it was , the other would have to have one also. The probablity is very high that most dont have it. Needle in a hay stack.
I do beleive now in most hostpitals that a light screening is done to new borns. But genrally does'nt take affect well into adulthood. And it does'nt help the probablity of a s\o latter in life that might posses that abnormal gene themselfs.
Todays world yes , but still impossible to match up to another as adults latter in life. Its not yet thouroughly yet confirmed or they would have learned a cure.
If I had such a disease I'd adopt and or attempt experimental gene therapy.

Considering I have marfan syndrome that's one of the reasons I'm not entirely unhappy I have no offspring. Short of abortion I'd want to do everything possible to prevent it.
It depends on what "everything" means, I have CF but it's mild and my PFT's speak for themselves, I won't let it hold me back. I'm infertile as are about 98% of males with CF, I wouldn't make a good dad anyways though

until doctors happen to find a cure which is unlikely in our lifetime because big pharma companies make to much money of the treatments. the only way to truly prevent it from being passed on is to not have children.
Well I'm certainly not going to be passing on my autism. All I want to impart on other people is my mentality, I don't need to spread my DNA to do that.
The inheritance pattern is unknown. It does run in families but it's usually not diagnosed till childhood and sometimes adulthood. It's also such a broad spectrum, hence why it's so hard to diagnose.

Google is free.
I have it. Know 50 years of diagnostic evidence concerning this issue. Go ahead make my day doc

But i can't pass it on. Thats my point doc. I have 12 children and 23 grandchildren niether of who have it.
Next...😮
You not being able to pass it on is not the same as "it's not preventable or passed on to others". It is.

Prevented by not having a pregnancy if you and/or your partner have the gene.

Sure. It is only one of many genetic diseases. It is detectable during pregnancy if you know you have the gene though.

Everything is just an hypothithis or a experment till a cure is confirmed.

Only if the child would suffer or be unhappy, people who voted Brexit and still think it was a good idea should not have kids,,,
Which one of these things doesn't belong?
I'm joking of course it's from a show
This reminds me about the arguments used to justify eugenics...
What can someone do to prevent it?
How does one prevent Down's Syndrome for example?
Genetic testing. Termination.
What if that was someone's only chance that having a child? Do you really think they're going to terminate?
If they don't want to then whatever. I'm not saying they should be forced to.. but there are other options for having a child
Fair enough
@Smashingdoozy If a person has a genetic disease/illness, they should do everything they can to minimize or prevent from passing it on.
That depends on how serious it is, and how heritable it is.
Yeah I don't sleep with short women for that reason I don't want hobbit kids
No since sickle cell is so unlikely to pass down
It's a 50/50 chance.
What about autism/Asperger’s?
The inheritance pattern is unknown. It does run in families but it's usually not diagnosed till childhood and sometimes adulthood. It's also such a broad spectrum, hence why it's so hard to diagnose.
I say yes, provided you care about that.
yes, self sterilization is the best option
Yes that goes for everyone
that's why I didn't have children
Absolutely maybe consider not having kids
