Yes, I have advanced swimming and life saving credentials and am part of a Search and Rescue Team in California.

One of the most dangerous rescues you can attempt is to rescue someone who is drowning, which takes advanced training to accomplish.

Children can, and should, be taught to swim right out of the womb.

Not sure. I was on the high school swim team. We swam this EASILY every other day. Not sure if I could do it now. I would think yeah. Because you don't have to do it all in one go. Bodies float. So I could do in increments. Question is how much I would cramp not being used to that, as well as water temp and whether there's a current. These would be factors.

I once rode a bike to work, which was a 1.2 mile trip... and it still felt like a long trip.

Assuming we are swimming in the ocean, I can definitely see myself having the drive to survive and attempting to swim, non-stop. And provided I'm not first nipped by a shark or quickly lose stamina due to rapid dehydration... I think I might make it.

That depends on what kind of water if you mean upstream from a fast-moving water heading to a huge waterfall... nope, I'm going over unless I can make it to the edge to grab something.

If you mean across a lake with waves during a storm, maybe... but if you mean a mile across calm open water, then sure, I can do that.

I’ve only ever swam from one end of a long inground pool to the center and back. The water got too deep (the center was deeper) and it got hard to breath. But if something is after me, i guarantee i can swim to survive. Just likely not a mile 😂

No not under normal circumstance. The longest I´ve swum currently was 1250m which is about 0,78miles. I might finish a mile though depending on how tired I am and how much andrenalin is in my body.

if people can get pulled on in rip tidal currents then surely I could swim a mile to save my life

When i was younger, i swam like a mermaid. I’d legit put one hand over he other. Clothes my legs tightly together and swim like a dolphin. I’d like to get in a pool again to see if i still swim like that haha

Depends on how cold the water is. >60°F, yes. <50°F, no. 50-60°F, maybe.

Absolutely!!! I’m a great swimmer! As long as the current isn’t too strong I’ll be good

No. Instead I could tread and spot the horizon enough to track land.

If I had to, yes. Of course it depends on the conditions—rough water, rain, storms etc.

      @Fuentes
You either have to live by the beach (expensive AF real estate), know someone who was rich enough to have their own pool behind their house, or afford a $200 a month membership to some place that had a swimming pool. I hear YMCA clubs had a pool, but there weren't any in the city I grew up in!

So while it's only a little bit of an exaggeration. I stand by my point: You have to be rich in order to live near the beach, know someone with their own pool, or pay for an indoor pool. Though maybe places like California are the exception, since the whole state is beachside.

That's just one ghetto city haha their are pools all over the place you get in for FRee and apartment projects in housing all have pools lol don't believe me look it up bro haha why u think niggas rap about fighting in the pool Pitt when it wasn't the summer hahaha? U gotta see the rest of the US u don't gotta be rich to get in a pool. It was cracking ain't no money needed to be spent to get in haha

I've never heard of any free swimming pools before, even in other places. I've seen stuff on TV like Malcolm in the Middle and certain YMCA's having pools, but even those weren't free or cheap.

We had a place called friendship park in the Kane and Hillyard pool I ain't been there in a whole decade and over some but I rmbr friendship park got packed up from dirt cause heroine needles all over the place and hillyard pool Norte turf now so I could never ever go around there cause they enemies haha but that shit was cracking in the summer and we ain't pay shit to get in. We just walked in. And every housing shifty ass apartment I lived in had a pool lol but it was barely open cause people was dirty and doing weird shit and the city would shut it down lol so moat the time it was empty and the pool Pitt was thunder dome haha I think Philly deprived y'all of a pool cause that's fucked up every kid should swim and experience being kicked out of pools haha cause people shitnin it and pissed and diapers were floating everywhere hahaa
