Yes, I have advanced swimming and life saving credentials and am part of a Search and Rescue Team in California.
One of the most dangerous rescues you can attempt is to rescue someone who is drowning, which takes advanced training to accomplish.
Children can, and should, be taught to swim right out of the womb.

Not sure. I was on the high school swim team. We swam this EASILY every other day. Not sure if I could do it now. I would think yeah. Because you don't have to do it all in one go. Bodies float. So I could do in increments. Question is how much I would cramp not being used to that, as well as water temp and whether there's a current. These would be factors.
I once rode a bike to work, which was a 1.2 mile trip... and it still felt like a long trip.
Assuming we are swimming in the ocean, I can definitely see myself having the drive to survive and attempting to swim, non-stop. And provided I'm not first nipped by a shark or quickly lose stamina due to rapid dehydration... I think I might make it.
That depends on what kind of water if you mean upstream from a fast-moving water heading to a huge waterfall... nope, I'm going over unless I can make it to the edge to grab something.
If you mean across a lake with waves during a storm, maybe... but if you mean a mile across calm open water, then sure, I can do that.

I’ve only ever swam from one end of a long inground pool to the center and back. The water got too deep (the center was deeper) and it got hard to breath. But if something is after me, i guarantee i can swim to survive. Just likely not a mile 😂
If I'm allowed to doggy paddle, frog stroke, and backstroke, sure thing.
Front crawl? I'll drown before I get halfway. XDEasily- perk of being fat; we float VERY well.
Give me a few weeks to recover from this heart attack & I will let you know.
Ha ha ha... i would say i'm dead. :)
Buut seeing as I'm pushing enough as it is to get the hell out of this town that I'm willing to take a chance even if it seems like not the best... i think i would.
Normally, heck yes. Today, I would drown. 🫧
What other threat? I'd die from drowning cause I can't swim. I'm such a rebel.
Side stroke all day. They dumped us off the boats at 3,000 meters and told us to start. “Equipment appreciation swim” they called it…dicks.
No not under normal circumstance. The longest I´ve swum currently was 1250m which is about 0,78miles. I might finish a mile though depending on how tired I am and how much andrenalin is in my body.
I mean to save my life I could certainly try!
maybe float half the ways.
if people can get pulled on in rip tidal currents then surely I could swim a mile to save my life

to save my life, yes...
to save someone else, absolutely...
with no emergency at all happening, I don't even get in a pool if I do not need to, lol I can swim a mile even up stream In a Louisiana river. Depending on what I was trying to escape, it might not be fast enough to save my life though.
i nthink so. i think if i wanted to i could but i think almost for sure if it was my life at steak i could totally do it
My leg would probably cramp up and then I’d die. 😂
Haha, or maybe I’d be able to do it if I’m careful and I take my sweet time. 🙃Yeah I could I think but never tried it in an ocean or lake. I have treaded water for over an hour at swimming pools during vacations.
Yes, won't be smooth looking but i could do it
Almost certainly, depending upon currents and waves. In fact, i think i could double that for the sake of survival.
Probably not but I could try. After a while I would float once I got tired.
Probably not... However adrenaline can sometimes do remarkable things!
I could. It's not that hard. Just be smart how you divide your strength.
