Furthermore, as I a student, where would I get the funds to hire a personal trainer? I believe that those personal trainers are overrated and that they don't really bring anything to a normal citizen like me. I don't have the need or urge to become someone famous.
In other words. The money spent on a personal trainer is money wasted that could be better used on something that actually serves a purpose.

I think the turnaround is something like 80% of PTs quit within a year of starting.
Because of the reasons you mentioned.
However there are really good trainers that know their thing and are needed specifically when you're dealing with injuries or postural imbalances. Some things are difficult to self asses. But they're more seen as therapists than these gym assistants you're speaking of. - +1 y
@Comfort_Cave If you are a really good personal trainer, then you will also charge an arm and a leg and that is not something I could afford right now. But you are probably right. A lot of them believe that they can make a lot of money and that celebrities will hire them, just to find out that it is very difficult to make a living out of training nobodies like me.

+1 yI've worked with three. Saving up for a fourth. Men and women.
I like highly technical and specialized sports. I also injure myself frequently.
Personal trainers have helped me keep from injuring myself worse, and teach me about the science and mechanics of the movements I like.
Now I'm saving up to work with a friend of mine who climbs, and is amazingly strong. She and I are similar in height so if I can approach her strength, it'll mean I might be able to do some of the crazy stuf she does!00 Reply

+1 yYeah. I usually need someone pushing me and guiding me through work outs. When I’m on my own, I don’t push myself hard enough.
my gym offered a free session when you signed up for a membership. I did it and I enjoyed it. But the prices of it are a little too much for me00 Reply
+1 yI've thought about it, but I changed my mind on wanting to grow muscle and unless I become dangerously fat, it's not a thought I'm pursuing at the moment of wanting or requiring a personal trainer. but they do provide a very important service to people, 💪🏻

+1 yOh absolutely! I already exercise regularly- I'd love someone to whip me into shape, so I look like a fitness model! Plus, it would be nice to have someone keep me accountable, check in regularly with me, help push my body, and most importantly-
Snap at me for eating foods I shouldn't be eating! 😆00 Reply No. I know what I need to do to stay fit. I am not going to pay whatever the heck they charge for them to tell me what I already know. Even if I didn't know what to do, I could likely look it up online and find tons of fitness programs for free. I even get this apple fitness stuff through my subscription to apple one or whatever it is called.
00 ReplyYes to coach my squat deadlift and bench press. Squats feel like shit and bench press uses all front delts and my pecs don't do anything.
I seem to have strange anatomy for lifting. I'm probably meant to do something else but I love to lift.111 Reply- +1 y
Do you pull your shoulder blades together when you bench?
- +1 y
Yes I do.
It's only my left pec that is not activating.
Even if I go on the fucking cable machine with zero weight and focus on ONLY flexing my left pec, it still causes my left shoulder to kick in and take over.
The only way I can flex my left pec is if I bring my arm across my body like I'm putting on a seat belt, and then I flex from there and I can finally get it to activate.
Whereas the right pec I can easily activate and I can flex it without flexing my shoulder at all.
For the first time though I did some deep pushups on a dip bar. And my pecs were sore as fuck!
I'm hoping if I keep doing that it's going to help.
I also have been working on the bench with getting my pecs to take the load instead of my shoulders but it's hard.
When I was new to lifting guys I lifted with had me doing THEIR weights on my first day. That was like 12+ years ago. But I remember that my left shoulder had to twist and contort to take the weight. But that must have torn my shit because years later I started to actually lift and this shoulder problem arose. - +1 y
Oh fuck. Yeah, doing it wrong on time can ruin it for a lifetime.
That sucks man, I'm sorry. Sounds like a trainer might be what you need. Dips are good too though.
I don't flat bench anymore because my shoulders can't take it. Consider switching to incline maybe too - +1 y
Thank you I guess you're right. I do find Incline bench to be better.
What is strange is the worst thing that can mess me up is standing overhead press.
Even though I could do say 135 for 10 reps. After that my shoulder is utterly fucked and I have to rehab it again. If I bench press, it aggravates my shoulder but I can do a maxed out bench of maybe 215 and I'll be relatively fine just inflamed and irritated.
But I never did OHP until recently.
Maybe one day I'll be able to get a trainer or something. I was thinking about trying to get some physical therapy if I go to the doctor for the shoulder. I don't know yet.
I've been doing all kinds of physical therapy style exercises on it and they have helped a bit but they definitely don't clear the problem away :( - +1 y
Damn, I hope you can get that straightened out! You still lift more than me though, so you can't be doing that bad lol
- +1 y
It's weird because I can do OHP with high reps to failure with a lighter weight. But as soon as I put 135 on the bar my shoulder is fucked.
This little conversation kind of shines the light on that for me. Maybe that's part to solving the problem lol.
Thanks bro. Good luck in your lifting career and don't get injured! Lmao. - +1 y
Lol! For real. Thanks man, you too

This is probably something neither of you heard often about, but is there anything going on in your teeth? Hell, some of the most successful physical therapists start assessing their clients by asking about their upbringing and shit. But even with a tolerable upbringing and psychological wellness, the teeth can keep your entire body in a fucked state. The mouth is the center of the body. Imagine, the entire body is one blob of tissue, all muscles connected one to another, with very long wires connecting the whole thing. Then there is the brain and all the electrical signals. Something wrong with the teeth will send signals all the way to your toes, the tongue will keep the hip flexor tight... look up pubmed on how the stomatognathic system controls your posture and gait and muscle function and breathing patterns. So our bodies are actually healing rapidly and most chronic pains are merely symptoms recreated daily due to another overlooked problem.
I'm not saying that the OP doesn't have literal shoulder damage. But he can't know unless he has looked into his toes, ankles, hips, neck every organ in between, and the perceptual organs especially teeth and eyes.. we need to put the "neuro" back into "neuromuscular" I see so many therapists claim to work with neuromuscular healing but don't know crap about it and only treat the muscles directly on the surface. For example if one eye doesn't have good peripheral vision then the body will tighten on that side because the brain doesn't feel safety there. Without even talking about the direct impact of the eye or tooth or even hearing thing that makes you turn your head one direction, which turns the neck and therefore the whole ribcage and spine.

I haven't heard that, but my bottom teeth are fucked and it causes kind of a lisp, which drives me insane. So they definitely affect my mental health lol
