My boyfriend will be back from military service in the last days of October. I decided to take birth control pills, just to be safe but I have no idea when to start taking them. When is the ideal time? Is it 2 months before or should I start 1 month ago? Does my period affect it, how can I arrange these?
You're supposed to start after the last period and then give it time. So it depends on the birth control you are taking. Some want you to wait 5 plus days before sex. I've seen others that recommend two weeks. Honestly in my opinion you wait a whole cycle to do it. So if you start after your next period like they want you to you should be good. Talk to your gyno though. That's a question for a doctor and not GaG when you're talking about potential pregnancy.

If you’re going with the pill, taking it 2 months ahead of time guarantees that it’ll be working by the time your boyfriend gets back in October. It usually takes about a full month for your body chemistry to adjust to it and become effective so you need to make sure you’re consistent with it. Set a daily alarm to make sure you’re taking it at the same time every day for the first month.
What Girls Said
Generally you’re supposed to start after the last day of your period. And use backup birth control (condoms) for at least 2 months while your body is adjusting. But your doctor should tell you details and instructions.
Ask your doctor. You had to get a prescription from your doctor to get these.
