Any glass wearers here?

I've never needed glasses till probably the last couple years. Seems like my eyesight has started going downhill recently. Now I get why people hate glasses. It seems like your forever cleaning them. How has someone not invented self cleaning glasses yet? And there's no comfortable/safe way to hold them when cleaning them. Because it seems like the frames are fragile.

Any tricks you other veteran glass wearers got for me?

You can pay an extra fee to your dispensing optician when they are made to have a "hydrophobic/oliophobic" coating (water and oil repelling) added to the surfaces. Costs are about$30-100 depending on the seller. WArby Parker has blended lenses with all types of coatings for $395 a pair. Actually, I clean mine once every couple of weeks- yes, you read that correctly. I just wear them when I drive, and sometimes when I watch TV. Most spectacle vendors have some sort of package deal with multiple coatings and lens features. When I worked for a living at a computer all day, I had one pair I kept at the office. It was a single-focus lens, set at 20", the distance from my eyes to the computer screen. No coatings, no high-index glass/polycarbonate plastics- just simple, single function glasses. Best cheap investment I ever made.

If you get glasses at Costco, they give you free eyeglass spray wash every time you stop in, if you ask for it. A little micro-micro-microfiber wipe and their cleaner works for me. (disclosure- I get no commissions from any sellers).

How well is that water/oil repelling coating? It seems like it's the oil or eye juice🤣 from my lashes that collects I try putting it down lower on the bridge of my nose but then my nose hurts.
I know this probably sounds funny. But as I say I've never wore glasses before. I didn't know they were such a pain.

The coatings I got at on specs at Costco and America's Best worked better than others. Dear Asker- Since I am a health care professional, I have to include this tiny bit of legality to keep my insurance company happy, ergo, (disclosure - I get no commissions form any sellers).

Oxidation is a common underlying cause of eyesight becoming worse as time goes on. Ask yourself how much organic sulfur, nac n-acetyl cysteine, gluthathione, iodine, vitamin C, vitamin A (Retinol), vitamin D3, K2, magnesium and omega 3 is in your diet. Also some eye issues are mental in the sense we are seeing incorrectly. Feel behind the neck to see if there are any lumps or pressure from the over use of the wrong eye celery muscles. A friend of mines blurry vision cleared about 40% just from massaging that area. The problem with glasses is it trains you to see incorrectly so you end up over using the smallest muscles that are to do with your peripheral vision.

In short, glasses address the symptom while ignoring the cause. When I was younger I was told my eyesight was getting worse and that I needed reading glasses. After a while I threw them in the bin and later learned about nutrition. Now I can see in the dark and read tiny print.

Until Opticians take steps to identify, address, heal and retrain the eye then focusing only on the symptoms is a money making scam.

When your eye problems are caused by strained muscles and you are given glasses and new prescriptions, what do you think happens to your eye muscles and eyesight?

If your eyes are getting worse, it could be related to your gut bacteria and your body PH. When my gut bacteria was out of control, my eyes were going bad at a crazy fast rate. Now they are much more stable and might even have improved since then. Experiment with acidic and alkaline foods to see if you need to change your body Ph and remember that diverse foods that are not processed are good for your gut bacteria.

Also remember some foods that are acidic become alkaline when metabolized and some foods that are alkaline or acidic behave like their counter opposite once it enters your body. I recommend 3 google searches or more of everything. The fastest way to boost gut bacteria if you don’t want to try a bunch of different foods is to mix together different types of herbal tea each day or take supplements that your research says is safe.

Lastly, make sure to consume both vitamin A and C and remember that just because a food is high in A does not mean your body will absorb all the A. My mother always says you need olive oil to cook the carrots or your body will not absorb the vitamin A. Vitamin A from meat like Beef is much easier to absorb.

One more thing is that PH strips are not totally correct cause your body PH is different from the Ph you generate onto the strip through waste body waste. Another thing is, Dr Berg says acid reflux is usually caused by having a stomach that is too alkaline and not one that is too acidic because when your stomach is alkaline, the stomach valve cannot close properly and if the valve does not closed the chemicals from your stomach will go up to your upper body giving you heart burn so never take acidic products to treat heart burn. Experiment in that condition with an apple cider gummy or liquid consumed with straw to protect your teeth. The apple cider is just a few teaspoons mixed with cups and cups of plain water.

Eye Dr. told me that eyes tend to change drastically during periods of growth. So every time I hit a growth spurt (as a kid) my prescription would change. Eyes have been steady as an adult until recently when they're starting to get presbyopic (late 40s). So, that might be something to keep in mind. While women are pretty much done growing by 18, men will continue filling out until around 26.

As time goes on, your standard for what's clean enough will go lower and lower.

At first, you will be cleaning them multiple times a day.

Later, if you can still see through them, then that's good enough. 😁

I only started wearing glasses 4 years ago.

I just wipe them with dry soft tissue.

On a very rare occasion, I put them under a sink for one second each side, let them dry, and try to wipe them.

I don't use any special products. No sprays, no wet tissues, nothing.

(They are water-repellent though. I don't know if it matters. Probably not cause I would clean a cheap-ass sunglasses under a sink too. 😁)

I've worn glasses since I was 7 years old... that's almost 50 years. Typically, I've gotten a new prescription every 2-3 years as my eyes change with age.

How do you keep them clean, clean them?

I clean them when the lenses get dirty, usually several times a day. I use lens cleaner (or sometimes plain water) and a soft cloth. If neither is available, you can breathe on teh lenses, which makes them moist enough to clean.

I like wearing glasses. I've worn them for 45 years, 16 hours a day. I think of them as face jewelry, and provide a certain amount of eye protection.
