How do you help a autistic and ADHD kid function in school?

For one thing she’s incredibly gifted, she tested out of two grade levels but decided to keep her where she is because we didn’t want her to loose all her friends. The problem is she’s disruptive and not focusing on the task at hand. She has a lot of energy and acts out quite often. She does have two SPED teachers as well as a pathologist and the counselor who have dramatically helped her. But it’s getting to the point where she’s either too hyper or having meltdowns once a week

My last boyfriend that lived with me had ADHD and didn't even know it until he was 50 when he was diagnosed in a VA hospital.

So, I can relate to the hyperactivity and the other things that people with ADHD express.

I am curious why she is not on Adderall or another medication that might help her symptoms?

I have watched videos about what it's like to have ADHD and I know I couldn't live with it without having some pharmaceutical intervention. I am serious!

I used to watch him and he was always looking for things he lost; keys, glasses, the remote, his cellphone, you name it, and he spent most of his day tearing up the house looking for his lost items. Of course it makes for a messy house when someone is constantly tearing it up trying to find lost items.
It gave me anxiety just watching him do this every single day!

On the other hand, he was highly intelligent in Astronomy, astrophysics, the Universe and self taught everything he knew, plus the math skills of Einstein that he taught himself.

So there's no double that people with ADHD are intelligent people.

From what I have researched about ADHD, it is a birth defect in the brain that is visible on MRI scans. You can actually see the area of the brain that is affected.

People with ADHD also are deficient in the neurotransmitters Dopamine and neuropenefrin and when you are deficient in Dopamine in your brain, which is the pleasure center part of the brain, they are constantly trying to get pleasure from someone and or something. The deficiency drives them to seek pleasure somehow because they are lacking in the pleasure part of the brain.
So, they can be quite busy constantly pleasure seeking something to give their brain what it needs.

I only wish that I could have told my boyfriend what I just wrote here, but he died suddenly a year ago almost to the day now.

Yeah it’s easy to say that but if you haven’t worked with special education. It’s not that you don’t hold the accountable that’s not at all the case. But they can become overstimulated or under stimulated

Traditional school is a waste

The special Ed program is very good there and all of her teachers, administrators, and support staff genuinely care.

It’s just the whole being either overstimulated or under stimulated
