I'm a DSP in a group home. And this guy had been rushed to the hospital Sunday morning I worked Saturday night, and he had blood clots in his lungs.
He didn't seem nothing out of the ordinary the night before when i worked. I'm the only one on nights they have 2 people working during the day, they got him up in the morning and he had an "episode" but now I feel like they thought I knew something when I didn't. I'm afraid now, cause what if i go to sleep (its a sleep shift) and something happens. I worked in the hospital so I'm always cautious about people's safety. If I knew something was off I would tell them.
I don't know though, they didn't call me or ask me about it or anything I'm still about 5 months in I'm new still. And getting everyone's routine down. I feel comfortable but stuff like this scares me. Especially when it deals with blood clots.
It's actually the doctors fault cause they took him off cold turkey of his blood thinner.
I'm worried now cause he's weak, he was in the hospital for about 5 days being treated for it. He gets up and seems like it's a little painful for him. But once he's up he's okay.
They're treating him with antibiotics.

Don't stress yourself out too much sis, it's not your fault what happened to him. It sounds like the doctors really dropped the ball by taking him off meds like that.
As long as you're following the routine and protocols for your shift, that's all anyone can expect. We're not mind readers - things can change overnight sometimes without warning.
It was good you worked in a hospital before, so you know to watch for obvious signs like trouble breathing. As long as you pay attention and don't hesitate to call for help at the first red flag, you're doing your part to keep him safe.
His symptoms seem to be responding to treatment now thankfully. Just keep watching him closely on your shifts, trust your gut if something feels off, and communicate clearly with day shift at changeover.
Try not to panic - you got this! Accidents can happen to anyone. Focus on doing your job right each night. I'm sure they don't blame you at all, so stop stressing yourself sister! You'll be fine.
