Why am I more tolerant of light sleep or sleep deprivation now that I'm older?

When I was a young adult and my brain was still growing, being deprived of sleep through a shortened duration was worse than being punched in the gut. I would scream and yell at anybody who interfered with my peace if I was deprived of sleep while socializing with people at church or school. Now that I'm older, I can run on a shortened schedule for a vacation, a road trip, or a preparation session for some event and not even care that I did not sleep properly. It's less annoying than a mosquito bite to me. I also find that once I hit my 20s I no longer cared if I felt nauseous, it was just a minor hindrance, and as a kid being nauseous was terrifying and traumatic and worse than being bruised with a baseball bat.
