Have you ever CUT your THUMB?

Question

Today, I cut the tip of the thumb on my right hand on a piece of glass. It was a small cut, but impossible to put a bandage on just the tip, so I kept pressure on it until the bleeding stopped. It's amazing how much we use the tip of our thumb, when grabbing or holding things, especially when it's on my dominant hand... I'm right-handed. I've had to do many things with my left hand, since my right thumb hurts and starts bleeding again if I try to use it. Have you ever cut the tip of your thumb? How did you deal with it?

Yes, twice, much worse than that!!
First time, about the time I was 16. My parents were putting a new carpet in upstairs and had a circular carpet cutter. I accidently bumped the blade with my thumb and it sliced about half way through it!! From the right, middle of the end joint of the left thumb half way into the nail!! It wasn't even plugged in! Just sitting on the kitchen table!
Second time: about 30 years ago, same thumb, I think. Opposite side, same wound. This time, I was working in an Indian restaurant. I was helping them get lunch ready for their customers at CMU. They gave me a pretty dull meat cleaver and had me chop up eggplant. The blade kept BOUNCING off the eggplant!! I'm holding the food with my left, chopping with my right. I accidentally hit my left thumb in the same spot on the left side, this time and that dull blade went halfway through my nail!! I said, "That it! I quit!!" I went home to tend to my wound. As before, it eventually healed up. Sree and I are still friends, though.

Thumb cuts are difficult to deal with. They are painful, they bleed a lot and on the tip they are difficult to bandaid properly.

Try a bandaid over the tip going from under (thumb print side) to over the tip to over the nail to over the top really tight with one of those stretchy ones then another or two around it to hold it in place. Does nothing for the pain and if anything makes it more sensitive but will hold the wound together and aid in healing it quicker

My parents left me alone for a month and I was a 14 yo. girl. I could cook already and decided to buy a Japanese knife that a Star chief used in his TV show I learned cooking from.
That super sharp Santoku Haiku Chroma from Japanese Global corporation came from an online shop and I decided to make a red bell pepper salad. Bell pepper is difficult to cut because it has hard skin. I was flashed how sharp this knife is and how easily it cuts. Then suddenly that red bell pepper started to swim in red fluid, a lot of red fluid. It was my blood. I didn't even feel the cut. I just separated 1/3 if finger nail and 4-5 mm of finger tip. I made quickly a pressure bandage, due blood loss I started to feel dizzy. I waited until the wound stopped to bleed and I felt instantly asleep.
My friends told me that finger tip will never regrow again, but they were wrong. I guess my vampire genes did the work. However this finger tip was totally numb a while.

Eww! I remember a few years back, my dad was using a meat slicer, of course he had been drinking and he cut about an 1/8", maybe a little more, of his middle finger off, with the nail! It bled and bled! I ended up putting toilet paper on it and securing it with duct tape. It actually worked and finger tips will somewhat regenerate themselves. For a few months, his finger was flat at the tip but now, you can't even tell it was partially cut off. He's one of the reasons I became a nurse 😂

Ohhh yesss! And finger tips bleed like crazy. I wrapped a kitchen towel around it and put pressure on until the bleeding slowed down a bit, then I got help putting a bandage on it. It works if you put one length wise across the top of the thumb and then a second one around the thumb to hold the other one in place. I kept a bandage on it for a couple of weeks because if I didn't and bumped, it would open up again. No fun!

And fingers, knuckles... used to operate a machine that made plastic sheeting from pellet to finished product all in one go. Always working with multiple razor blades to slit it ro size in process. Lots of little nicks over the years... Super Glue is youe friend on this one

I'm sure I have. Between house projects, car repairs, and other various things I've worked on, it's probably happened more than once.

One time, I was drilling in my parents' kitchen and the drill came off the screw... that wasn't pleasant... at all...

They make bandaids shaped specifically for the tips of fingers and toes. You could also go for some “Second Skin” or good ol’ cyanoacrylate. Just make sure you clean the wound thoroughly. Lest you seal bacteria into the wound and cause an infection.

Yup, on a can of cat food no less. Cut so deep it left a scar, not quite to the bone but you could definitely see the inner flesh of my skin inside quite visibly.

Yes, and my pinky. It was a deep cut, I should have probably gone to the hospital for it, probably worthy of some stitches… but except for a light scar, they have healed nicely.

Let me see if I can count the number of times I have! Over the years we have had different guys working in our kitchen nip off a piece of a finger using either the chefs knives or on the slicers.

Stick it in a spiders cobweb. It acts like fibrinogen and helps it clot quickly. I've had a few minor thumb cuts that's all

I hammered it and bruised it, which is similar... I was putting nails in a chair and it had a bump I wasn't aware of and the hammer kinda deflected and I hit my thumb.

One of the worst 10 days of my life, not due to the pain, but because I was umable to do everyday staff without some bothering...
