I had my blood work done in November then went about my way and continued my same eating habits. I had to reschedule my follow-up so I didn't get the results til December. A1c was 6.6, fbg was 89. To me this didn't make sense cause I had still been eating the same way so surely my fbg should have been in the diabetes range right? But anyway I got scared so started dieting and exercising in December and then I had more work done in January and the results were A1c 6.3, fbg 102 (both in pre range) I asked for an ogtt and a referral to an endocrinologist but my doctor declined saying he already proved I'm diabetic so I changed my doctor.
New blood work done in February and the results were now A1c 5.9, fbg 91. I went about my way and continued dieting (couldn't really exercise this time due to family responsibilities) and finally had blood work done again lately July. Results - A1c 5.8, fbg 93.
So with the exception of one, all of my fbg results have been in the normal range and most of my A1c results have been in pre range. Because of this my new doctor to me she comfortable enough telling me I'm prediabetic, not full blown diabetic. The thing is I'm still not sure.. I mean I feel like an ogtt would definitely tell me for sure whether I'm diabetic or not however my new doctor told me it's hard to be approved for an ogtt because those tests are usually used for pregnant woman. Even then I want to take an ogtt. How can I convince her to put in an order for in ogtt on my behalf?

Perhaps until your numbers change from your tests and are getting worse, she can't write doctors orders because she may already know your insurance won't pay for it yet.
Also, most doctors don't like when the patient tells the doctor how to do their job.
No one likes being told how to do their job lol which is why I didn't. I only asked about an ogtt because I was advised to ask for one due to the discrepancies in test results and when my request was shot down a nurse from my Medicaid services advised me to change doctors because my original doctor was trying to diagnose me based off one A1c test even though my fbg was normal. My new doctor has been a bit more thorough tho and I have nothing against her.
That makes sense. My insurance could possibly deny it. Thanks for the insight.
Especially Medicaid. Even if you are prescribed medicine the doctor has to start you out on the cheapest one first, and work up to the better one's if the other ones aren't helping you with your condition.
It's their protocol.
Thank you for your insight 🙏🏼
You are very welcome 🙏 🙂
Wouldn't your doctor know more about this than a bunch of random people you don't know on the internet? And if you don't like your doctor, ask another doctor, with a medical degree and all that?
