Have you ever done something like that? Explain it to me, please :)
What is going to happen if you eat nothing but two fruits/day and water for four days?
Have you ever done something like that? Explain it to me, please :)
People have such a warped view about nutrition and dieting. I like the fact that you think there's something inherently healthy or fat busting about fruit. In terms of the nutrients that it gives us, every type of food is healthy and gives us vital nutrients. Our body needs 30% of our calories from fat. You just need to eat the right proportion of everything.

"Eating Fat Doesn't Make You Fat
Excess calories combined with a lack of physical activity makes you fat. Eating too many carbs or too much protein will have the same effect that eating too much fat has. At the end of the day, if you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. It doesn't matter whether those extra calories come from carbs, proteins or fats, the result will be the same.
Losing Weight
If you are trying to lose weight, avoid simply cutting all fats out of your diet. Losing weight requires that you: 1) figure out how many calories you burn each day (calories calculator) 2) figure out how many calories you eat each day (count calories) 3) create a calorie deficit, eat less calories (by about 500 calories each day) than you burn. Calories should be cut across the board rather than just focusing on one of the macronutrients (i.e. low carb diets & low fat diets).
The End
Good fats can have positive health effects. By limiting all fats in your diet, you are missing out on some key health benefits. A more sensible weight loss plan can be created by cutting out only bad calories and increasing your physical activity level."
To answer your question, you will just make yourself feel ill and put your body under pressure unnecessarily. Your body will go into starvation mode, thus any calories that you do intake will be stored as fat when you start eating again. Ultimately, after a week, the end result will probably be that you put on weight.
If you want to be healthy or lose weight then you're better off with a longer term strategy. Eating only fruit, is quite frankly, dumb.
Thanks for the great answer! Well, I know it's dumb and I never said I'm going to experiment that. I was just curious about the effect. I don't know much in that area and therefore I thought about asking. I have another question for you...if you need to lose a few extra pounds in a short period of time (5 days or so), what would you do?
I don't really know enough about it to give you a reliable answer. I'm sure you would start to lose weight already if you just do the suggested around 300 calorie deficit each day. So just eat a smaller proportion of everything and exercise. Cut out any junk food and sugary drinks altogether. They normally represent a lot of hidden calories. I'm not really sure about short term weight loss. link seems to give sensible advice.
Thank you! :)
Are you trying to maximize 5 day weight loss or 5 day fat loss? These are very different things?
5 day weight loss. What do you think would be effective?
You realize its going to be 90% water weight loss and come right back on, right?
And may I also ask ... what's the goal?
The only people who do this all the time are weight class driven atheletes who need to 'make weight'. The amount you can move off and on depends on how much muscle you have, but as an example, men who are well trained will weight in at 170 lbs one day and show up over 190 lbs the next day to compete in mma. Its all water moving off and on. No fat, no muscle.
I understand that. I have big muscles. Why? because I need to lose a few extra pounds and I don't have except four days. So, what do you think?
Why does the number on the scale matter to you? You won't look any better by losing water weight.
A few pounds makes an effect. I'm short. So?
No, a few pounds of water does not make an impact, really. You wouldn't actually look thinner. I know it must seem like I'm harping on this, but so many people (especially women) focus on things that move the scale around that don't matter. I could move 10 lbs of water weight off by tomorrow, but I won't look any better, I'd need to lose fat to do that.
I understand you. I bet the best way to lose fat quick is exercise + avoiding fatty food, right?
No.
Massive caloric deficit. So low fat low carb and as much steady state cardio as you can do. Eat enough protein to support ketosis without ripping muscle tissue out.
It takes time to use up fat though. In 4 days, you might drop 10 lbs buy 8 of them will be water, you'd have to be going really hard to lose 2+ of fat.
Read up on protein sparing modified fasts. If you send me a message with an email address, I could probably send you a pdf of a book on them.
Thank you very much. That was really helpful :)
Also - if you tell me your weight (via msg) I'll give you a brief outline that would last you 4 days.
Really though ... by a girdle if you want to look better that fast.
She'll lose water weight because the amount of carbohydrate she is consuming will not be enough to replenish what her body depletes, which means her body will use up most of the stored sugars in her muscle, which are bound to water.
This is why going on a low carb diet results in an immediate (well 48 hour) weight loss of perhaps 5-8 lbs.
I'd guess the lack of sodium ingested would result in even more water loss.
Its not about how much water is being consumed, its how much is retained.
Err well the calories your taking in vs the calories your using will be different. You'll lose weight most likely. Water has no calories so the only calories will be from the fruit. You need about 2,000 calories a day, so unless you've got big-ass fruit, you won't get that from two pieces!
The only experience I have is I have had eating disorders in the past. I went through a period of eating nothing/almost nothing in the day and exercising a lot. I felt dizzy and used to pass out from exhaustion and lack of energy. I got bruises on my body and face from it. I used to shake through the day and I barely remember it (I was barely awake). Why?
Oh!
Well as long as you drink water you will be hydrated which is good but you need to drink more water then usual. I have done diets like this in the past and you do lose weight pretty fast like that. This will cleanse your body and jumpstart your diet. After this you have to eat healthy and continue drinking a lot of water. If you just do this for four days and nothing else then you will gain the weight back very fast so its pointless. This is a good way to start a diet but don't do it for more then four days because your body needs certain foods to function.
Thanks! :)

You will be a very hungry woman and you are going to feel sick, as far as loosing weight, maybe 2 to 3 pounds. The guy that said 8 pounds in 4 days is gravely wrong! You can onnly loose that much weight if you are really sick and or just had an accident or a surgery as your body goes on "recovery mode" regardless of that be careful with gambling with weight. As well fruits are made up of more than 50% water, so you won't actually loose water weight...as he assumes you are going to dehidrate?
I heard of that diet before, you do loose 3 pounds really fast, as you are pretty much "starving" yourself. But it is risky because like I said you will be very hungry, because your body its not used to only eat fruits, it likes to eat meat, vegetables, potatoes and etc...so when you are done with the diet, you are veeery likely going to indulge on food, which is counterproductive because you will get the weight back. As well you will be sick as well, you will feel very tired and you will be very drowsy.
If you really want to loose weight, do the cliche stuff that people always says "be easy on fatty foods, don't eat processed foods, no candy or empty calorie foods, eat fruits vegetables, vegetables, daiy products and eat LOTS of grains. Also do lots of exercise you know how it is 1 hour of exercise per day, it can be on anything that you enjoy, it doesn't have to be just cardio, but cardio is the "best" of the group.
That was really helpful. Thanks :)
You'll start to feel grouchy, dizzy and lethargic I should think, those are all signs that your body needs food. Starving yourself doesn't help you lose weight, it does the opposite. When you starve yourself over a period of time you'll notice that you do seem to lose a considerable amount of weight however when you start to eat again your body comes out of starvation mode and your metabolism speeds right up so you put the weight on twice as fast and if not more than before.
It's tedious but eating right and exercising really are the best ways to lose weight, whether it's 4 days or 4 years :)
I know :) I just need to lose a few extra pounds these days. I know it's unhealthy.
To strictly answer your question, yes there will be weight loss, but it's only water weight loss which will be gained back very easily. You will get drowsy, most likely not enough energy to do much things throughout these 4 days. You will also experience constipation because there's just not enough food in your body, which also means that you will have a spare tire under your stomach that doesn't look good. Nope, I have never done that, although I have eaten very little things within a day due to too much work to do. Immediate consequence is screwing up the body's digestive system.
Do you want to look thinner within these 4 days or do you want to lose weight? Is this due to attending a graduation, fitting clothes, or a photo shoot? The best thing I can suggest now is to avoid salty and sugary stuff , reduce your carb intake a lot, but eat protein, vege, fruit consistently across a few hours and drink enough water for these four days since I don't really know what exactly you want.
Exactly. I have a conference to attend and I want to fit my clothes and look thinner. What do you suggest?
Refrain from salty and sugary food, don't take any fat unless it's good fat such as olive oil. Try to squeeze in a 20-30 minutes exercise for at least one of these 4 days. It will improve how your body looks. Eat more vege and fruits for dinner. Having an egg for breakfast also keeps you full for a good while and gives you the protein you need. You don't need to eat only 2 pieces of fruits for 4 days for better results ;)
Thanks! :)
I can answer the energy side, there are potassium etc sides I'm not knowledgeable on.
Your body would run out of carbohydrates, so flip over to using fat as an energy source for your muscles. It would use body fat for this.
Your nervous system cannot use fat as an energy source, so your body would enter ketosis and produce ketones as energy for your nervous system. That would require protein. Since you are not eating protein, your body would start ripping it out of your muscle tissue, permanently slowing your metabolism until you rebuild that tissue.
If you resumed eating at the same level as before, you'd regain more then you lost thanks to the slowed metabolism.
Nothing special is going to happen. You will just feel a bit uncomfortable and hungry. But It also depends on, why are you doing this.
I have personally spent 36 hours without any food at all. not even water. So for me I can spend 4 days with only two fruits and water provided, I am motivated to do that.
Did you lose weight?
I don't remember, as I did not check at that time.
Just a suggestion for you, If you want to lose weight that. Doing such kind of things are unhealthy. The thing which matter is eating right food at right time in right amount.
You'd be better off eating veggies and water, because fruit has sugars in it where as veggies have got more vitamins, protein, iron...etc which will keep you energized and more full. The effects could be lethargy, dizziness, mood swings and massive cravings. Definitely not recommendable unless you have more than 2 pieces of fruit or veg. I haven't done it but I studied health, fitness and nutrition.
Am I going to lose weight or none at all?
It can go either one of two ways, either you lose weight, in four days 2 to 4 pounds average or remain the same. When depriving yourself from your normal food intake the body goes into shock from consuming less calories than it is used to. The body then burns muscle which slows down weight loss and metabolism.
Thanks. :)
No prob :)
Even if you were to lose weight in this little process - as soon as you start eating back to the way you were, you would go back to how you were. Especially if you consume things with high fructose corn syrup on the daily. And the body does burn muscle. Which people see as 'weight loss.' When in actuality, you still have fat tissue there.
Totally diziness.I can feel dizzy even when not eating for one day what more to say for four days.Even some fruits and drinks might help me to "stay alive" but yet my body need some carbohydrate to gain some energy.I might just lying down and can't do anything. My hands would "shiver" lol.
Your body will need to get the energy from somewhere because two fruits is not enough to keep all your processes running. The first thing it converts into energy is your muscle, because that is more easily convertible than fat. Fat it stores until it really really needs to tap into it. So over the course of the four days you'll lose muscle mass, and then when you start eating regular foods again it'll start storing more fat again.
So you will be lighter after four days, but it won't be good for you at all. Your muscle will be gone, and you probably won't look any different, because muscle is leaner than fat. Unfortunately, the best way to do it is to maintain a healthy diet while exercising at the very least 20 minutes (intense exercise) every day to burn off all excess calories.
It'll take a while, maybe 5 pounds every two weeks, but I did this simple routine and lost 20 pounds pretty easily in probably less than two months. Real weight loss takes time. Hope this helped!
Nothing bad will happen. Youmight feel a litttle mweak but on the other hand it will cleanse yur system, and you'll sure lose a little weight.
In many cltures people fst all day and eat very light meals like this, no meat or protein, in the evening. Ian't it like this at Ramadan?
No, no we eat in Ramadan but at night. We fast during the day :)
Four days will cleanse your system, and it's not enough time to significantly affect fat vs muscle or anyting like these halfwits are telling you
In 4 days I don't think it will have that big of an effect. You may lose a couple of pounds but eat like that I would belive you would lose a lot of energy that you could of used for exercising.
You're right.
You will loose a heck of a lot of weight.
This coming from a guy who only drank water for three days. No food. But I was a fatty to begin with.
How much did you lose?
Thanks! :)
Would have been about 9 lbs water loss, 2 lbs fat. Nothing wrong with that, just saying.
Depends on what fruit you eat will make you slim... In fact, you will get sick eating the fruit on the fourth day that you might vomit it out like a jet fountain... lol :O
well... better eat different fruits... can give different types of nutrition...
I would faint as I require a lot of food. And I love to eat. :-)
I shall never try that. Are you fasting ?
Nope. You wouldn't know what will happen as you didn't try it ;)
I would become skinny & wimpy :'-(
in four days? lol
Yes ! I would definitely lose some weight & my hard earned muscles - not a good thing for someone who is as serious about getting muscular like me. :-)
You'll be begging for meat or hell any other food by day 4 ill tell you that lol.
lol
You'd start craving carbohydrate rich food really badly. You should give your body what it needs, otherwise you'll just have cravings.
You'll lose weight. It will only be water weight. but the minute you start eating normally you'll gain it back. and if you don't start eating normally again you'll feel miserable, and eventually get sick and possibly even die.
You'll lose muscle and every pound you lost will gain back within 2 days of eating normally.
You will drop weight fast but it is only temporary unless you keep it up - not a good thing.
You'll lose weight (and probably pass out or come close to it a few times) and then gain it all back...but you won't lose that much weight (ex. you won't lose 30 lbs. in 4 days or anything)
you'll feel weak and cave in on the end of the first day or sometime the 2nd. I've done it before. and would not recommend. I lost no weight... I did lose my concentration, happiness and fun!
