It’s best to only do that if you’re sure that you have no intention of trying to get the person to get better. Entering a hospice is usually a way of saying you’ve given up on medical care.

I know a lot about it. I'm guessing you think anyone put in it is destined to die? That's false. Or, are you talking about the loss of service? Which is also false.

I always thought hospice meant going someplace to live out the remainder of your life because you have a terminal illness. If I am wrong correct me.

@NoDecision That's not what it means. It means you get home treatment or a comfortable treatment. People actually survive hospice care.

This is the definition I found and which I have always believed.
Hospice care is a service for people with serious illnesses who choose not to get (or continue) treatment to cure or control their illness. People may choose to enroll in hospice care if the treatment is unlikely to be effective or if continuing it has become too burdensome. Hospice aims to provide comfort and peace to help improve quality of life for the person nearing death. It also helps family members cope with their loved one’s illness and can also provide support to the family after the person dies, including help with grieving, sometimes called bereavement care. Medicare reimburses for hospice services when a physician determines that a patient has a life-expectancy of 6 months or less.

Many people with a serious illness use hospice care. A serious illness may be defined as a disease or condition with a high risk of death or one that negatively affects a person’s quality of life or ability to perform daily tasks. It may cause symptoms or have treatments that affect daily life and lead to caregiver stress. Examples of serious illnesses include dementia, cancer, heart failure, and chronic obstructive lung disease

Yes. Fortunately, not for myself - yet. My wife- a licensed professional Counselor, has to deal with that a lot more than I do.

Yes, it the beginning stages for terminal illness care. They keep your love one. Some are paid by providers or some out of pocket

Well, I have an autoimmune medical condition called Sjogrens Syndrome. It dries up the mucus membranes in the body.
I need to get IV fluids to keep me as hydrated as possible.
It seems like nobody is helping me to get this treatment.
I have a home health nurse that can't even help me with getting this treatment
I used to buy bags with my own money but they raised the price from $15/bag to $100/bag so I haven't been able to have the treatments for over a year and I get very sick without the treatments.
My nurse suggested that I get home hospice and they would be able to get me anything I need.
I've had this medical condition for 9-1/2 years now and the internet says the people usually dies in the 9th year. But I am still here.🙂

No problem a hospice nurse isn’t just for dying people , they also help people to feel better and comfortable , so they have access to the good shit lol

I've heard of it, but never (knowingly) had a client with it. (If you haven't found it already), look for a book "Sjogrens Syndrome", by Elliot Jacob, published by Medifocus. Keep fighting the good fight! I hope you find a better way to land those treatments.

Thank you for telling me about the book. I assume I can put it in my Google search box and it will tell me where I can buy it.
I might have found a way to get that treatments, but we are still in the process of trying to coordinate it. My home health care company said they might be able to cover it. 🤞
It's terrible that our immune system can misread perfectly healthy part of our bodies and attack the good parts of it, getting the signal that it's an invader and attack us. But that's exactly what my body did. In case you aren't aware, that's what is an autoimmune disease.
There are all kinds of them that people have. Geezer, to have your own body turn against you - I mean what can we do when that happens? Then we end up with horrible diseases that didn't have to happen to us.

I think I'm going to buy my immune system a better pair of glasses to wear so it doesn't screw up again.🙃

Yes. The immune system- and the immune and AUTOimmune responses- are "funny"-not "humorous"- but in the meaning of the word as "often strange in its behavior or existence". I have immune/autoimmune issues, plus I had to study immunity and autoimmunity for part of my massage training. I have skin "plating" issues, and considering I have certain arthritic issues, I am logically concluding that I am likely somewhere on the psoriatic arthritis arc. Of course, since I don't have a spare $10-15,000 laying around for tests to prove that theory, this hasn't been clinically proven. I just put up with it and monitor, treat symptoms. On a whole, my immune system is really "in overdrive". My body fights things off for long periods and that wears me down. My wife- conversely- gets knocked on her keister for a couple days, but then is fine!!

Thank you for sharing your personal story with me. Now I don't feel so all alone with this.
My body is very hard for my doctor to help me to feel better, as it doesn't like vitamins either. I had a B12 shot and broke out with hives on the insides of both my wrists. Weird huh?
He has told me in the past that he has had to read medical books about my illness'.
I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome as well. Luckily my doctor is a rare specialist in that disease, and has traveled the world 🌎 studying it.
Even with all of his knowledge and knowing me as his patient for 20+ years, he hasn't been able to help me feel better. Sad!😔
