When did you start needing to wear glasses?

I feel like I'm starting to need glasses when I drive at night. And I find I'm sort of nearsighted now where I didn't used to be. I think it's because I'm getting older.

I guess it was my late 30s.
I went out to the desert one day with some friends to shoot at targets. I took a target a couple hundred yards out so I could sight in a rifle. When I aimed the rifle, I couldn't see the target. That was the first time I realized that my eyes weren't what they used to be.

Some time later, I had to renew my driver's license and couldn't pass the eye test. So I went and got glasses and retook the exam. But then my license required me to wear glasses when I was driving. I kept my glasses in the car in case I got pulled over, but I never wore them.

Years later, I went to get a new prescription for glasses but my right eye was blurry, no matter the lens they tried. They said I had cataracts. So I got cataract surgery on both eyes.
Since then, my right eye has 20/20 vision but I have to use readers for up close. But it turned out that I have glaucoma in my right eye and barely have 20/80 vision in that eye.

I renewed my driver's license again and passed the eye test with flying colors, so I no longer have to wear glasses when I drive.

Being nearsighted means you have trouble seeing far away. Why do you say it's because of your age. Heck, I'm 71 and can read the eye test at the doctor's office and the one they give when I renew my driver's license. So, please don't just write it off as age related. Have the eye doctor decide that.

As far as needing reading glasses for my myopia, I was in my 50's when I suddenly had a hard time reading papers and books.📚 But I just bought reading glasses (I call them cheaters) at the drug store over the counter.

My poor son has been wearing glasses that he has to wear all of the time since he was in elementary school and he's 47 now. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with his eyes but he needs them all the time. Maybe he has astigmatism in both eyes! 🫩 Poor guy!!

Please get some corrective lenses as soon as possible before it gets worse.

I was in middle school. I didn’t even realize how bad my eyes were until I got my glasses and put them on. Felt like a whole new world lol. I was like, “whoaa, I can see each individual leaf on the trees!”

I first got `em when I was about 12 or 13. After about 10 ears, they didn't seem to be helping much, anymore so, I went to get new ones and they were so incredibly strong, I couldn't wear them!! So, since the eye guy refused to fix them, I never bothered wearing them!! About 20 years later I was talked into trying again and got another pair. Again they were much too strong but he wouldn't fix those, either!! This time, I tried to wear them as needed for a while but, they made my eyes worse!!! Then it hit me that he was the same asshole that made my 2nd pair!! I didn't know because he'd moved to another building 2 blocks away! I stopped wearing them!! About 6 years ago, I was talked into trying again, this time, from a COMPLETELY different vision place and, although they were also a bit strong, I at least wore them SOMETIMES but, as of about 3 years ago, I couldn't even tell you where they are!! Other than having a bit of lazy eye in one eye, I tend to see pretty well and, when I need help (hardly at all), I just use a magnifying glass. From what I can tell, most of my vision problems in the past 30 years have come from looking at computer screens!! Especially since, for SOME stupid fucking reason, most of the world seems to think it's a GREAT idea to have all their text printed in tiny light grey lettering on a blazing white background so, you can barely even see what the fuck you're reading!! What's wrong with crisp BLACK letters?

My eyes are still good. Not to brag but I will! They're 20/15 😊 I get tested every six months for my job, so if there's the slightest change, I'll be required to wear glasses. I don't care if I do. For some reason I already pictured you wearing glasses, with your hair up in a tight bun, looking cute lol Maybe because you said you studied to be librarian.

Minimal astigmatism. It causes cylindrical deformation and it's often people with this problem see perfect in bright light but have difficulties at night when their pupils dilate.
My father has this a while and this didn't get worse over years.

Luckily I've never NEEDED glasses. However, a long time ago, when I did an eye exam, they said I should PROBABLY use them. Not that it was a necessity. But years later, I did an eye exam again, and they said I had almost perfect 20/20. Iunno... very strange stuff. Or I'm just good at guessing the letters lol

I was around 10/11. Honestly I didn't need to wear glasses at that time I just thought it would be cute to wear glasses so I cheated on my exam. Now at 35 I permanently wear both glasses and contact lenses.

Age 8. LASIK age 21. Back to glasses/contact at age 35 or so. LASIK ain't forever! Eyes not terrible like they were but definitely need glasses for driving
