Astigmatism, has anyone ever dealt with this?

to the people that have astigmatism, I’d like to hear your insight. I’ve worn a prescription with a low cylinder for years and I felt great. I got a new eye doctor and she gave me a new prescription with double the amount of cylinder that I used to have. Mentally, I feel off, can’t think clearly, it’s way too powerful and I notice a big difference. My old doctor retired and I think he purposely gave me a lower cylinder for comfort. Anyway, have you ever dealt with this kind of feeling?

What kind of cylinder? I've never heard of that.
I started wearing glasses when I was about 12 and kept the same glasses for about a decade. Then, it was suggested, I might need new ones so, I went to another guy to get new ones and they were so powerful, I felt like I was 10' tall!! I went back and told him they're too powerful and he said I should just get used to them!! $300 shot in the ass!! I never wore them!!
About 15 years later, someone talked me into getting new glasses so, I went to what I thought was a different guy to get new ones and the ones he gave me this time were also too powerful and when I told him, he just said I should just wear them and get used to them!! IT WAS THE SAME GUY!!! HE MOVED TO A NEW BUILDING!!
Well, this time, they weren't quite as overpowering as the last ones so, I decided to TRY to get used to them. After about 2 or 3 months, I noticed that my vision got worse and I stopped wearing them!! ANOTHER $300 shot in the ass!!
About 7 years ago, I went to a completely different place to get new glasses and they were also a bit more powerful than I needed them. Again, they just said to get used to them! So, for a while, I did. At least they were SOMEWHAT helpful and only cost $100 a pair (I had to get another set for driving, which I've still never done!) but, I almost never wear either pair. I'm not even sure where the readers are!!

It reminds me of something my first eye doctor told me when I asked why they don't correct your vision to 20/20 he said technically you could get even better than that but even 20/20 has the tendency to be too much for the brain to really handle. It gives some people migraines.

Also, I'm no expert but I bet doubling the CYL is a massive difference the brain still has to process the raw input from your eye so that's probably why you're having issues. I think generally you're supposed to make these changes gradually.

I'd say give it a week but set up an appointment now just in case.

I think with the new doctor I got, she gave me a prescription where it was 20/20, I mean I could see like a thousand feet away even the smallest detail but I don’t need it if it’s going to give me brain fog, if it’s going to make me feel nauseous and everything. All this time I was going for the perfect prescription to see but that isn’t important, what’s important is comfort. Appreciate you sharing that.

I have astigmatism in my right eye. I can't remember what cylinder is but I've had no issues with my prescription .

I'd try to get it changed

I was in a similar situation. 1 to 2 change in cylinder is a lot different from a 3 to 6 change, yet both situations are double. I would suggest easing into the change - that's what I had to do. Your eyes are having to "get in sync" with each other's focus.

If you are feeling that the new Rx is NOT really improving your vision, get a test from another place. I had a situation when the OD made my script 180º out of sync, in essence, doubling my error!!! My parents didn't believe me - I was having headaches, the whole bit. The doc checked my lenses in the lens refractometer and saw his error, gave us a new script. Make sure that the lens were make off of the Rx correctly.
