+1 yPeople don't go to the gym to pick up women at the gym, they go to gym so when they do pick up women, they look better.
Almost all of those classes are group steady state cardio. Most men don't focus on steady state cardio, and also don't enjoy doing the same thing as everyone else, they prefer to compete - with themselves if nobody else, rather then do some 'woo girl we all did it' type thing.
The only class I've ever done at the gym is yoga, because it actually was covering something useful I wasn't getting in other parts of my workout.11 Reply- +1 y
Good points! Kudos for trying yoga! =)

+1 yI would go if 1. I could dance and 2. I didn't feel like it would make women uncomfortable.
And by 2. I mean adding a wolf to a room of sheep may very well create some tension because they'd know I was hunting :)33 Reply- +1 y
lmao about the hunting! Oh, I just noticed your pic! How appropriate! =)

Not even a wolf ;P

Good answer Franco lol +1
+1 yGuys, why the heck don't you go to fitness classes?!
Probably because some of the girls are there to exercise not to socialize and get dates.
Why stay away?
Perhaps because some girls aren't interested during that time.
Some are more interested in the fitness of the fitness class not wasting time they paid for by being approached by a guy they probably don't want since he has to use a class to get women rather than go to social events.21 Reply- +1 y
I didn't mean that they would hit on the girl there...I just meant it would be a way for them to gradually become friends with the girls and maybe find someone...I've only been to a few classes myself so I was just generalizing...
+1 yhonestly, when I'm at the gym, I'm IN THE ZONE... and I hate it when people try to get me out of my zone... :p
plus, I don't feel/look that attractive when I'm all sweaty and dressed like a twice-baked hobo... so I wouldn't want to get approached at a gym. but maybe that's just me? idk.33 Reply- +1 y
lol not talking about myself...just saying in general! Seems like a perfect opportunity for the guys to meet girls! You know? and I'm sure you don't look like a hobo! lol

@prof: thanks :)
@QA: I gotcha :p and yes, I do look like a hobo... I was once asked where my cardboard hovel was located.

I did a bunch of fitness classes last year, and I'll probably do some more this year. I have noticed the seemily wonderful guy to girl ratio that you mentioned. But unfortunately when it comes to working out it seems that most people don't want to be bothered, which is a shame because I am the most social and fun when I am doing something active.
Through my experiences with fitness classes I have learned I am not they good at remembering routines (cardio kickboxing), nor do I care to remember them. Also as Franco mentioned, I don't feel like making the women uncomfortable and myself uncomfortable as well. LOL. Just thinking about it cracks me up. I didn't know how to do a lot of the exercises last year so I would watch the instructor and then I would start to think "Oh great, I hope she doesn't think I'm just checking her out". It can be a little awkward at times. haha.12 Reply- +1 y
lol I completely understand about the routine thing! I kinda improvised in one class I went to when I couldn't follow! You're funny! ha ha
+1 ysome reasons
1. I don't go to the gym to pick up girls. I can change my mindset, sure, but that doesn't mean the girls won't change their mind set along with me.
2. yes there IS a lot of women but the key word is a 'LOT'... too much of anything is a bad thing. men have terms for these situations, such as 'walking into a minefield' or 'suicide mission'
3. the actual class doesn't do anything for me. going to the class would truly be nothing else other then an excuse to get close to the women.
in the beginning of the school year last year the yoga classes were free.. I went there with a wingman. I'm pretty sure all the girls were NOT interested in meeting guys there at all. so I don't think I'm ever doing that again.
i hope that helps you understand my point of view11 Reply- +1 y
Suicide mission? lol Seriously? Well, guess it could be intimidating for the guys...glad you gave it a try at least! Thanks!
Those classes are more feminine oriented, than masculine natured.
Do they use weights? No? Then why should I go? I want to build muscle. Not stretch enough to manage a split.
You want to find a guy? Go to the gym. Any guy who attends a yoga session that has a room full of girls makes him look like a fool.21 Reply- +1 y
In all fairness, they do use weights in pilates classes...and what's wrong with guys doing yoga? =) They're trying to find peace?

+1 yThere's an unwritten rule about gyms, not flirting really allowed. Many of the women are there because tey are on the make at work or at play and want nothing to do with any guys there anyway. They have some specific guy targeted. Others are there strictly to get in shape, are already married or committed...I've only had one fliration at a gym, really, and I've frequented tem for years, mostly before I was married...

Shame really...fit people that are dedicated...healthy lifestyles...sigh
- +1 y
i agree totally. It would be mch healtheir in every way to have a flirtation subculture in gyms rather than in a haze of alcohol in a bar, no? Like many things about our modern culture, this seems wrong-headed!
- +1 y
Said very well! Wish more people felt that way!
Because, those workouts are for woman. What kind of guy in his right sense of mind would wanna do a p**** workout when they could be lifting heavy weights and feeling like they accomplished something.
Most guys don't go to the gym to meet woman, they go to workout. They just get woman when they come across them.11 Reply- +1 y
Fair enough...but I'm sure some of those classes can be intense too!
+1 yi have my own personal gym/workout room...Soo I'm good. Unless a guy friend is going to a gym and wants me to tag along, ill go but I'm not single so it wouldn't make a difference to me. If I was single and he asked me to go with him I would say " so who's car are we taking?"
11 Reply- +1 y
Ok that makes sense...thanks!
1.5K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Zumba and spinning aren't catered to the average American male.
In fact...neither is Pilates lol.
If I ever did a "feminine" fitness class, it would be yoga. In fact, I don't consider Yoga feminine at all. Males can benefit from the routines as well. :)11 Reply- +1 y
U think? Shame! Zumba's pretty much dancing...Good for u! You do that! =)
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yThe ones that you mentioned are generally seen as feminine workouts by most people. The vast majority of guys aren't going to go to them. I guess someone could pose a similar question to you. Why the heck aren't you benching twice your weight yet? You'd meet lots of guys. lol
As for me, I don't like gyms. I don't like to be around a lot of people whether I'm exercising or not. For me, everything can be done alone in or near my home. I do play various sports with friends, though.11 Reply- +1 y
lol Valid point! It's like there's a wall around the weights area (for grunting guys only)! lol j/k =)

+1 yI don't work out in a public setting. I work out in my home, not at the gym. But no dancing related stuff for me, can't do pilates either. Spinning I think I could do...
21 Reply- +1 y
That's still admirable! =p Yep, I've seen a few guys doing spinning...
I just would not feel comfortable in a room surrounded by ladies laughing and screaming following what seems to be a very feminine looking man while playing salsa...
21 Reply- +1 y
lmao! OK fair enough!
+1 yno offense, I would hate if a guy came on to me at the gym. I want to go in and get my sh*t done and go home (or back to work)!
32 Reply- +1 y
Was just thinking that they could get acquainted better with girls if they went to some of the classes...but know what you mean about getting in and getting out!
- +1 y
=)
When I workout, I have to be by myself. Nobody needs to witness the testosterone charged massacre that occurs in my garage 4 times a week.
24 Reply- +1 y
What the heck do you do in your garage?
- +1 y
I'm guessing he knows something I don't? =p Thanks!
Oh cmon. Those girls aren't looking for some sausage when their doing Pilates. They want to burn it off!
12 Reply- +1 y
lol like the food comparison...yes not then, but maybe afterwards? Who knows? Thanks! =)
Because I refuse to wear spandex or yoga pants and work out to Brittney spears!
11 Reply- +1 y
lmao!
I have a home gym and I'm a workaholic on top of it.

Ok you're excused! lol good reason
346 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. No straight man would go into one of those classes. Besides, I have zero flexibility due to weightlifting.
12 Reply- +1 y
Sounds like you've lost focus on why we should be working out. To be fit. If you're compromising flexibility for strength you're not getting a balanced work out. You can can still practice practice yoga to increase flexibility but you're better off doing plyometrics since that word sounds more masculine.
- +1 y
Guys and their masculinity! lol Work on the flexibility!
because it would be a complete and utter disaster for me lol
plus when I'm at the gym I mean business14 Reply- +1 y
Are you not coordinated? lol

Back row? ha ha
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yhaha great point. also yoga. never any guys, but a room full of hot chicks
