What foods / drinks do your consume for health, that you feel are "underrated" for your area?

To answer my own question, here it is. I live in the USA.

*****all teas other than "black" tea*****

Most people in the USA imo don't know that "Lipton" tea, or "iced tea" served in restaurants, is black tea.

I like black tea for the caffeine kick. The funny thing is that black tea is the most common in the USA, and yes it is good for you, yet black tea is the weakest when it comes to health benefits.

There is green, white, oolong, jasmine, earl grey, "herbal" teas such as hibiscus/rosehip (they come in nearly infinite fruit flavors btw)...

...yet for some reason "black" tea is the only tea available at some restaurants and "to-go" places.

USA foodservice places needs to follow the Eastern nations and stop sleeping on all the other tea varieties.

Tea is awesome for your health; lowers blood pressure (regardless of some having caffeine), increases circulation, balances pH of the blood as an alkaline food, untapped&underrated source of vitamins / minerals, strengthens the immune system, & aids the liver & kidneys in flushing toxins from the body.

There are PLENTY of flavors to stop from getting bored, and tea is cheap as hell, too.

*****Beans (of all kinds)*****

The USA, per capita, consumes the most meat (as in livestock) out of any country in the world.

How do people in countries get their protein if they don't have (enough) coastline to fish? Yes...you guessed it.

They're one of the cheapest, nutritious (protein, minimal fat, fiber, good carbs, vitamins, minerals), non-perishable foods you will ever find on the globe...yes in the States we don't eat them that much.

I think this country has a meat obsession.

Other countries eat meat, but the key difference I've noticed is that meat is either

1)used as a flavoring agent to rice / pasta / bean / soup / sauce dishes, rather than the primary focus,

or

2)if it is eaten as a "cut" of meat, that is on an occasional basis, and the "cut" is usually a smaller size.

Beans are so f***ing versatile it's ridiculous. With the spice / meat / veggie combos you can do with them...infinite possibilities. I personally believe the the typical USA palette is simply not trained to like beans like the rest of the world is...but anyone can train the palette with enough will. :)

My rant is over. Please give your examples, and thanks for your input. :)
