Trending & News Whey Protein is not a mineral supplement. Minerals are micronutrients, and you typically need a very small amount of them each day-- hence MICROnutrients. They play a smaller role in your performance and recovery than protein. But if you're extremely serious about results, you will want to include a vitamin supplement like Opti-Men, on top of increasing your protein intake.
Whey Protein is a high-quality type of protein that is designed to digest fast, as to quickly give your muscles the protein it needs to recover from the workout. Protein is a macronutrient. Macro meaning large. It is a nutrient that you need a large amount of, especially when lifting. This is why there is such an emphasis on Protein supplements-- because increasing your protein intake has proven to dramatically increase your performance and recovery when working out and resting.
I have tried a couple of whey protein supplements and have seen better results with them than without them.
If you are a skeptic, who doesn't believe in the science behind these supplements.. or doesn't know which supplements are real and which are phony.. These foods have helped me get my protein intake:
I have seen great results with milk, which digests slower than whey, but is much more affordable. Milk also has a lot of micronutrients included, but the downside is the increased calorie intake (if you're looking to cut weight and gain muscle, milk isn't the best option). Beef Jerky is one of the most expensive options for protein, but one of my favorites in terms of taste and grams of protein per 100 calories-- if you have the money, this is perhaps the best option for cutting weight while gaining muscle. I also like PBJ sandwiches (peanutbutter for protein, grape jelly for flavor and bread for carbs). Tuna fish (high-quality protein, low cost, if you can eat it without mayonaise like me it is amazing for you.. if not, it's still a really good option). Almonds are another decent source of protein that I like. Steak, eggs and hamburgers are among the more obvious sources of protein that I eat often.
So to sum it up.. Whey protein supplements are great to increase your protein intake and to give your body good quality proteins. Most whey protein supplements do not include much vitamin/minerals, but some do (e.g. Muscle Milk is a decent source of protein and vitamins). Supplements are great, because you'll likely never be smart enough to design a diet that gives all the nutrition your body wants. So these supplements, SUPPLEMENT your diet to make them more complete. If you are not getting 80+ grams of quality protein a day (which very like you are not-- and that's fine), I'd highly recommend whey protein. Your muscle gains will skyrocket<--- keep in mind you still have to workout for the muscle gains, more protein just makes your results greater/faster.
Whey protein metabolizes faster than any other kind of protein, I wouldn't consider it optimal. I would definitely choose non-fat milk over whey. Non-fat milk is usually 1g protein / 10 calories (very high), which means if you drank 1000 calories of non-fat milk a day, you would have 100g of slow-digesting casein protein. That's pretty damn solid and better than buying supplements.
You don't need protein powder if you have a healthy diet, and it's hard on your kidneys.
Natural products like grains and fruits have hgh levels of the minerals and trace elements you lose in workouts and they are a great idea. Also flax as an additive.
but chemically produced protein powders..you don't need!
Muscles are made of protein, after all, so be sure you have enough natural protein in your diet.

Little Miss Muffitt, sat on a tuffett, eating her curds and whey
Then along came a spider, and sat down beside her, and she defecated in terror.
