If your gonna speed on the treadmill and your a beginner don't do any more than you can handle start of slow and while your walking and you realize "this is too easy" than go up one more level and continue adjusting the levels until you feel like your burning calories at a good speed. If you wanna start running don't do what I did... which was run super fast lol I hurt myself.. I did it all wrong.. you should start jogging at a slow speed and work your way up to running
remember walking and running start off small steps
dont do more than you can handle
and if your in ANY pain your doing something wrong usually its because your speed is TOO FAST or too slow lol
you have to be comfortable

Start at walking pace. Use an incline, if it helps.
Warm up over 5 minutes. If you plan to jog, increase it to something like 6km/hour and go on a flat level because even the slightest incline can make a difference.
The main thing is to go slow and take your time, building up speed and endurance.
I think the treadmill is best for intervals. Go from slow to fast and back down. Short sessions, no more than 20 min total.
I don't think long session on atreadmill are advisable because the gait is unnatural and you risk overdeveloping certain muscles. That can lead to shin splints and such.
