I eat meat maybe once a day or a couple times a week. Just whatever works out when getting meals, based on me choosing based on either wanting the taste of the food, the health benefits, or maybe saving money. But my boyfriend on the other hand, his favorite part of a meal (or as the entire meal!) is meat! LOL So he probably eats meat more than once a day frequently. I try to get him to switch meat to vegetables or grains because I don't think that much meat is good for him though. He likes meat cause I think to him its the tastiest part of the meal, and maybe also because he doesn't feel as filled or full without meat in a dish (but that might be also a psychological thing of feeling that a meal must have meat in it to be complete.)
According to the food pyramid, or whatnot, I think they say to have around 4 ounces or meat or something like that per day. So if you think about that as a measure of standard, then it's normal for those who do eat meat. I might have that amount totally off though, so don't count on that number lol10 Reply

Just depends on what I'm in the mood for, and what my boyfriend feels like. He's a big meat fan, but luckily he has his 'craving something lighter with veggies' days too, so he's pretty thrilled with whatever I make, meat or not. I just make sure when I don't use meat, I'm still getting in a decent protein content, so that the meal is still filling and satisfying. I've been both a vegetarian and vegan in the past, so I got pretty good at interpreting ingredients and putting things together in a way that ensures I'm still getting the important nutrients.

LOL, all kinds of things! Lots of whole grains and bright vegetables [the brighter ones tend to be higher in nutrients], dark greens [more iron], lots of different kinds of beans and other legumes, nuts, assorted fruits, etc. I'm not a vegetarian anymore, but we're broke for another few days and there's no meat in the house, so I made a veggie stir fry with broccoli, carrots, and snap peas with noodles, in a sweet spicy Szechuan/teriyaki sauce I made from scratch. Very fresh and satisfying, lol.

But I also know how to bulk things up and make them rich so that they satisfy and you don't feel like you're missing anything by not having meat. I feel like that's mostly psychological anyway, haha. I like meat, but I don't feel like I'm having an incomplete meal when I don't use any.

I mean I get if you don't like the taste/texture/whatnot of meat that's fine, but you're not likely saving any animals (they're still being slaughtered for others and animals will ALWAYS die, not to mention the species of animals we eat are the least likely to go extinct so long as nothing happens that's true catastrophic) and meat is the best way to get certain chemicals. Yes, some can be acquired by plants, but they don't do it at nearly the efficiency level which makes meat a healthier choice. Of course, in moderation.

Two things are interesting. First that people have to take things to extremes. Why can't people say, I'll eat less meat if there is some genuine advantage to it, rather than cutting it out altogether. Secondly, we can't deny our nature. The next stage will probably be radicals campaigning against the cruel, inhumane slaughter of seals at the hands of bears.

It sounded pretty judgmental to me. As for people's reasoning for their choices, it doesn't need to be sound. It affects them and no one else. People make their choices to benefit some aspect of their life, and that's all that matters. Their reasoning shouldn't make a difference to anyone because it's a personal choice.

If they're going to do something and claim cause it's "healthier" or "saves animals" when very logic and facts say otherwise, then I'm gonna call them out on it. I don't care if they do it, but if their reasoning is stupid, I'll point it out. Better to educate them. They don't need to change their habits, but I'd be happier with a reasoning of "cause I'd rather not eat meat" than hearing "because it's healthier, it saves animals lives, etc" and other bullsh*t "facts"

I'm not judging them for their choice, I'm judging them for their flawed reasoning. I'd rather people not continue to spout false facts as if they were truths. We already have organized media doing that enough.

For some people, becoming a vegetarian does make them healthier. Saying it is healthier isn't wrong or flawed reasoning. What would be wrong is to say that you can only be healthy on a vegetarian diet and not on a meat diet, because you can certainly be very healthy eating meat, too. As for animals, no, as an individual, you aren't saving more animals. But hypothetically if more people stopped eating meat, demand would go down, and less animals would be killed. That's just economy.

It is flawed reasoning. The thing that could have been a problem then was more their own proportions of meat instead of cutting it out entirely. I never said you can't be healthy on a vegetarian diet, I'm just saying it's not "healthier." Especially if you want to look at taking in food efficiently (minimal amount to get the maximum requirements of vitamins and whatnot you need) then meat SHOULD be a part of your diet.

And if more people do that, the price of all vegetables and such would go up. The prices would skyrocket. Hell, the prices have already been skyrocketing cause of fools who think that "biofuels will save the world" (ignoring that the process to make biol fuels has still taken fossil fuels).

As for the price of vegetables/fruits/whatnot going up if meat stopped being eaten? Yep, it would. If you think it wouldn't you're ignorant to economics.
And if you think making bio fuel (atm mind you) doesn't require fossil fuels, you ignore our cars running on gas to transport the goods and a great deal o fother things. - +1 y

Because they've been reading "studies" that apparently eating meat--especially eating red meat, is "unhealthy." lol That or, we're supporting animal cruelty, because many of the animals that have been slaughtered, have been mistreated in factories/farms.
Truth is.. Soy is probably 100x worse than any regular piece of meat. Been linked to increased rates of cancer, infertility in men (as well as man boobs because of the phyto estrogens) and other things.. - +1 y
Eating too much meat IS unhealthy, though. But that's the truth of anything. Anything in abundance is bad :P
Haven't eaten any meat for the past 10 years. Not planning to ever eat it again.

Ha yeah. I really recommend green smoothies. Like one banana, a bunch of greens, and other fruit all frozen and blended into a smoothie. It tastes pretty good and you get so much of your fruits and vegetables for the day. And you can add power boosters like flax seed meal or chia seeds :D

Yea I do now, but it's more canned stuff and fresh apples / strawberries. I can't handle a lot of raw fruits like bananas and oranges for some reason, or raw vegetables - I wonder if it's like a lack of enzymes in my stomach to break them down or something? The organic fruits / veggies don't seem to make my stomach hurt as much when I eat them - and they are so much fresher and jucier

organic does taste better! actually I hated bananas and I didn't really eat raw veggies until I started doing the green smoothies. the taste of the blueberries/strawberries/whatever other fruit masked the taste enough that I could eat it. And now I love bananas, even crave them, and eat greens a lot more. It was pretty magical. Honestly I think you just have to experiment with lots of vegetables/fruits to see the best ones. I can't believe you don't like oranges though! do you like grapefruit?

Be careful with that. Food allergies are different than other allergies. One minute you could be okay and the next time you try the food you're allergic to your throat could be closing off. I say this despite still eating dairy and my doctor got really mad and told me that... But yeah just in case. It does help me to take a non-drowsy allergy pill if I eat dairy and the reaction is bad. And I love basically any citrus fruit but I don't like apples really. to each her own I guess!

No conclusive studies have proven that meat cuts off years of your life.
Soy on the other hand, has been linked to a number of diseases and hormone imbalances... I know that's where most vegetarians get their protein.
