Over the years I've been pretty lazy, so I have a little pudge around my stomach that I'd like to burn off. Other than running, what are some ways to burn fat QUICK?
thanks.
High intensity interval training, if you're on a treadmill run at 6.5 speed for a minute then jump to 9.0 for a minutes then go to 6.6 then back up to 9.1 and do it for however long you can until you have to walk and walk for the least amount of time you need, then start back up! Other than running, any cardio machine you can do the same thing with.
Athletes, how do you burn fat the quickest?
High Intensity Interval Training.
Other than running, what are some ways to burn fat QUICK?
Jump roping.
sweet. Do you know if Planks help?
Depends on where the pudge is:
- If it's around your belly button work out the transverse abdominis with horizontal planks
- If it's around where the v line is in men work out the rectus abdominis with planks
- If it's around your sides work out the obliques with side planks
whats a V line?
@candlewax
I know planks aren't going to help burn fat hence why I put High Intensity Interval Training and jump roping as ways to burn fat.
I know planks are just strengthen core muscles hence why I put them as a way to help with stomach pudge.
The HIIT and jump roping (cardio) will burn the fat off and the planks (strength training) will mold the muscles.
@candlewax
Planks will help with stomach pudge ala burning body fat by burning calories during the activity and building/strengthening muscle tissue. Hence why I advise it since along with HIIT cardio he'll be toning.
At first I thought you meant total body fat when you said 'planks are not going to help you burn fat' however it seems you just meant fat. Perhaps you're unaware as many people are that strength training also burns fat just not to extent the quantity, quality, or speed of cardio.
...no. I'm completely aware, considering I have a degree on the subject. You absolutely misinformed this guy by implying that planks will burn stomach fat. The answer is no. They will strengthen the core. Spot training is a common myth, which is what you're perpetuating here. Your body decides what fat goes first. Planks will not target belly fat or the "pudge" that you speak of. Strengthen, yes. Resistance training helps, yes. Get rid of specific fat? NO.
@candlewax
I'm beginning to question your degree as my information comes from those with a degree in Sports Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and research from the American College of Sports Medicine.
Planks are strength training exercises and strength training exercises burns body fat by burning calroes during the activity while it builds/strengthens muscle tissue.
@candlewax
I'm not perpetuating spot training.
I'm perpetuating that strength training burns body fat and builds/strengthens muscle. Unsure how you though otherwise considering:
"Planks will help with stomach pudge ala burning body fat by burning calories during the activity and building/strengthening muscle tissue"
That's saying the stomach will improve since you burn BODY fat and gain STOMACH muscle.
Seems you're the one misinformed not only on strength training but what I'm saying.
@candlewax
Perhaps you show me where I'm implying planks will burn stomach fat rather than help with stomach pudge by burning body fat and building/strengthening stomach muscle.
As well as how High Intensity Interval Training then planks is perpetuating spot training rather than cardio to lose fat overall then strengthen training to build/strengthen muscle in an area. If what I said is the mythical spot training to you then official sports medicine societies are also perpetuating this myth.
Caloric expenditure being > caloric intake. That simple. bodybuilding . com forums, go and profit. If you want to keep your metabolism high for extended periods of time, don't run distance, do sprintwork. Or the best way is just to get your a** under the bar and squat

One word- cardio. Running aside, anything that works the cardiorespiratory system is the way to burn fat the fasted.
Aerobics, swimming (which is a total body work out and you're combining resistance training), and bicycling are other examples.
I have to elaborate on the muscle bit since so many people seem to think that resistance training burns fat. It doesn't. To a small extent, gains in muscle mass helps because it increases your basal metabolic rate (more muscle = more energy required to accommodate all that extra mass), but in order to drop weight, cardio is the golden answer here. Also, spot training is pointless for weight loss. Good for targeting strengthening exercises, but it will not burn fat in that specific area.
what cardio training would be most effective? running?
Running works, but honestly, I think swimming would be the most ideal. It's a serious total body work out because not only are you doing cardio, but you have the resistance of the water which makes you work harder as opposed to running. To top it off, it's low impact so your knees aren't taking a beating from running on harder surfaces. I wouldn't be surprised if you threw an elite distance runner into a pool and they'd struggle to swim the equivalent of what they run.
Burning fat quickly isn't easy but in order to do it, you focus on a particular area. Since you're focusing on your abs, you could do crunches, pushups, planks, sit-ups, leg lifts and pilates.
does that burn fat? or build muscle?
Both! it burns fat mainly (at first), then it strengthens the abdomen muscle.
it's not a myth...it works with my athlette friends. focusing on a particular muscle can strengthen the muscles whilst burning the fat around it for energy
It's a myth and you are so wrong, it's funny. Your body decides what fat goes first. You can sit there and do 589325439 sit ups, but that fat will never go away unless you do cardio. You'll have amazing abs, but they'll still be covered by all that fat sitting there. SOME may go away, but it's not the way to get rid of fat. Your "athlete" friends are also doing cardio, honey. link Educate yourself pls.
hahaha OK ok you win. I'm sorry...can' t be too harsh now lol
Its mainly diet.
although diet is the base of my solution, but it won't burn off the fat. Physically working out does that
Unless you work out for hours a day the incremental calorie burn over baseline is small.
Generally I'd suggest just lifting weights to preserve lean muscle mass.
hIIT is also lean mass preserving relative to steady state work.
George Foreman? ...
... Oh... Sorry :/
RUN FORREST RUN.
Burpees!
cardio
very detailed, thank you.
hey, don't bite the hand that feeds you, I gave you an answer. It's not brain surgery, this isn't the only website to find answers, look it up smart ass.
didn't mean to get you so angry. how can I make it up?
I can't think of anything, lol
