Is it bad that people are saying I look skinny?

Since November 2012, I've lost about a stone and a half. I'm 5'1, and still a little overweight at 134lbs but I used to be 158lbs which just reached the obese range. Recently people have been noticing the weight loss. Today at school, some girls noticed and they were saying I looked nice. Then later on, one of them asked me how much I'd lost and when I said a stone and a half she was shocked and she said something like 'make sure you don't get ill' even though she's taller and slimmer than me, but in a nice way.

And today my sister came home from Uni and when she saw me one of the first things she said was 'You've lost weight, you look tiny' (again she's slimmer and taller than me) and was complimenting me even though she saw me only a few weeks ago. Then later on she was saying how my eyes look baggier because I've lost weight and that I look 'skinny ill'. It's strange because my weight and measurements (27 waist, 39.5 hips) are actually a little big for someone my height. I know they're being nice, but I kind of worry that if I lose more then I will end up looking ill and weird. Is this bad?

I am in the exact situation as you. I'm 5'1 and currently weight 132, down from 153 since November. Many people have said they can tell I've lost weight and I'm happier withy body but not quite there yet. I also have large hips/thighs and would like to lose about 15 pounds more but am having a very hard time losing any more weight.

You should be fine as long as you are still supplying your body with essentials vitamins/nutrients and not losing weight in an unhealthy manner. Keep up the good work and don't let anyone else's opinions deter you frm your goal. I'd be curious to see what your body looks like since I am so similar.

Yay well done to you! :) If you want to see what I look like, you can look in my profile. In my pictures with the purple dress I was about 151lbs, in the pictures with the black top and black and white skirt I was about 139lbs and when I'm wearing the orange top and jeans (my newest picture) that's what I weigh now. I don't know if you can see the weight difference or if the people saying I look skinny have some distorted view lol :) xx

I found another picture but it was taken about 2 years ago so I can't remember how much I weighed, but I look huge lol so I must have been near 158lbs. In the picture I'm wearing a white top with a black cardigan and jeans xx

My general experience is that any time people lose weight, people are terrified and suggest they're getting sickly.

I think there are (at least) two reasons for that:

- still have an instinctive feeling that weight loss is a bad thing.

- you lose weight, unless you replace your entire wardrobe, you seem swimming in your clothes, and that makes you look 'off' and like you're wasting away. Its a pain. I can't afford to replace my whole wardrobe, but I'm going to have to work on taking in pants etc.

They're just not used to seeing you slimmer. Sure, your skin will loog baggy for a while because of the weight loss, but that's outweighed (heh heh) by the long term health benefits, and the fact that you really DO look much better, overall.

They are just worried you might be bulemic or something. That's the first thing people think of these days when someone loses a lot of weight. But you're not losing at an unhealthy rate, so don't worry about their comments.
