How many of you know or play Cricket?

Cricket is a sport that originated in the UK and then spread everywhere, wherever the Britishers established their empire. though it might somewhat seem similar to baseball but it's way different. Also, it's know as 'The Gentleman's game' as coined by the Britishers themselves and involves 11 players in each team, a 22 yard pitch and a 450-500 feet ground in diameter & bats & season ball to play with of course. I come from a country that literally follows Cricket as a religion. Just wanted to know how many of you guys know or have played this awesome sport...

I played cricket for a good 9 years. I was an allrounder (opened the batting and bowled first change). I haven't played a competitive match in almost 5 years and I do miss it a little. I still watch test matches when I can. My proteas are currently the number one ranked test team and have the top ranked bowler and batsman. We are a bit inconsitent, but the potential is there to rule the world like the aussies did in the 90's. I'm looking forward to the Ashes coming up though. I also watched the Sachin's last match. What a legend!

Oh YESSSS I know about cricket because I am PAKISTANIIIIIIII. Finally Tendulkar tagged RED (Retired: Extremely Dangerous). Legend goes and list of players from 90s decreases by one.

On a side note, I would have loved him more, had he retired right after 2011 WC (just like Imran Khan of Pakistan). I feel he prolonged his career needlessly . May be chasing records of 200 tests and 100 centuries. Don's avg is not 100 but everybody still regard him the greatest batsman. Great men do not need records.

Oh yes, I know of cricket! Although it's not popular in Canada at all. In fact, I only just learned that we have an international team and have for many years! Baseball, which is probably derived from cricket, is much more popular here.

I've only played it once; here in the US, it's rarely seen. The ancestor, of course, of our baseball.

Sort of a shame, It's a fun game, since you don't have to have a lot of specific 'cricket' skill to play it.

It's the f***ing heartbeat of people In In Sri Lanka ( where I live ) .If you can't play cricket you are usually considered a looser over here in some cases hahaha. But Man I just don't get it . XD But I know a lot of people who like it .

You watch Test format, one day format or T20?

Probably Twenty20 because it was always between different nations when I watched it on ESPN. I was never all that interested in the sport itself. I did however play a number of games of it throughout school in physical education (PE) here in the states. We were taught the rules and played basic introductory matches like most kids do when they first start. It just wasn't all that appealing to me personally.

kk fair enough. I guess cricket isn't that popular in the US anyways though you do have a national team. :)

I'm sure we do. We have a team for everything. lol It's not a huge a national sport though like it us in India or Pakistan.

I think women anyways wouldn't like it, holding a heavy bat and playing a long match isn't your cup of tea I guess, though there are womens' 11 also in cricket.. :)

Its slow, boring and the majority of the players are doing nothing for most of the game.

If that's how you see cricket then perhaps you're mistaken. Agreed it could be slow( slow for you as you seem to be a football fan which is a fast game) esp.e the one day international and test format. ...but then you have the latest T20 format which I am not sure if you're aware of.
