My British friend told me he got sick and has a "skin condition" on his face?

Question

yesterday he was really depressed about it because he had a big audition scheduled today and he had never had skin problems before. he told me in addition to this skin condition on his chin, he had no appetite and his gums and throat were very swollen. I told him to go the doctor because it sounds like a food allergy. he went ths morning and later said he was doing better and got a cream he had to apply topically twice a day. I asked him what it was and he said it's what he thought it was but he doesn't want to talk about it. I am very curious now.

I had a condition called perioral dermatitis and I was ashamed to leave the house because it really looked like HSV1 all around my mouth and then my eyes. And it was SO painful that if someone has told me battery acid would have helped I would have willingly put it on my face. So I can say that having a horrible rash on your face can prevent you from leaving the house and causing lots of problems.

So for him it could be cold sores because the swollen glands/sore throat can be indicative of that viral component. So not only painful but also embarrassing(I was very happy I didn't have them) and difficult to explain to people. I got tired of explaining PD, so I imagine HSV one would be more difficult to talk about.

Maybe a fungal skin infection. The treatment is usually the same cream they use for thrush. He's probably embarrassed because he's using women's vaginal cream or just because fungal sounds dirty.

he still won't tell me what it is but he said it's contagious and he's very ill. he still hasn't gotten better. it's been more than
a week. i asked if it's measles he saie no don't worry about it.

I think fungal can be contagious. Could be chicken pox or shingles either (shingles only affects one side of your body and if you've previous had chicken pox) I guess it's the contagious thing he's embarrassed about. I'd let it go. He might tell you in a few years.

I'd say it's probably embarrassing then... not necessarily a venereal disease, but a lot of people get embarrassed by having some skin conditions. I know people who've had dermatitis who were very ashamed of it, same goes for warts, boils and spots, dry or oily skin.

I have issues with my own skin, it'll either be too dry or too oily... I can't seem to get the balance right, I have large pores which doesn't help either.

Just kidding. I have a food allergy that does something similar to that, it affects my throat and lips, I can't have red apples, you know the really deep red kind? It might just be that.

Pft, snow white has it easy, my lips get crazy itchy and no amount of scratching helps. My voice also gets REALLY hoarse.

What sucks is that I LOVE apples, every year or so I just suck it up and eat a red apple anyway and get destroyed by my allergies, and it's totally worth it.

Cause you want to know why? Apples are the shit.
