Should I get into art major even if im not talented?

I guess most people in that field naturally have talent in art/drawing , and my skills in art are weak , but i want to major in something that's actually fun , but im not talented in music or art

i guess graphic design is good? it's both analytical and fun at the same time , and the good part is that it's digital so even if im not good at drawing i can still manage designing

but also at the same time , i don't think im creative enough for it

i also like interior design but i alos think im not creative enough

So…. I’d recommend thinking about how you’re going to realistically, reliably, consistently make money after college. Artists are famously poor, usually. And it’s tough out here in “the real world”, not to spook you too much.

And I’m also not very artistically talented, or at least I’d say not so in the sense of drawing and whatnot, and there really feels like there’s a ceiling to how good I could be, I think in some tough-to-describe mental aspect, like my fine motor coordination and imagination are lacking.

I’ve always been an athlete, but even in my supposed lane, I’m slow (or at least sports-slow), and that’s just a genetic thing that I can somewhat improve with training, but I’ll never be “fast.” This is all just my experience, I don’t know if that’s why you or others are or aren’t talented artistically, I’m just saying it’s something you might want to consider, because it can be tough to make it in anything in the art world as a working adult.

Also, it might just be this particular professor and how class was structured and how the knowledge was tested, but not for nothing, Art History 100 was one of the hardest classes I took in school. I don’t have the love for it that you might, but I was at least intrigued and could appreciate it aesthetically. Some programs are easier than others, I’m sure. But I wouldn’t assume it to be easy overall, and I don’t know that they’ll give you good grades just because you tried hard after you get through introductory level coursework, sadly.

I’d recommend starting out undeclared (especially if you’re already accepted, I think that can occasionally be a strike against you if you were in a supposed “tie” with another applicant with a declared intended major). Try different things that you might like. Knock out requisite “Gen Ed” courses and by the time you’re a sophomore or a junior, you might have a better feel for what direction you want to go, maybe even through a Gen Ed class.

You may settle on something other than Art. BUT…. you can scratch the itch you might be having and explore Art a little. You could even minor in it. Also, it’s entirely possible to major in something and then your career ends up being something totally different. I’m not a professional historian, that’s for sure, never did anything related to my undergrad degree. I thought I could be a high school history teacher and coach football, but the older I got, the more I realized I couldn’t teach or coach this generation of kids and I couldn’t deal with my generation of parents😂 So you just make your way some other way👍

People will naturally get good at things that they think they're good at because they feel motivated and everybody keeps telling them they're good at it so it's a positive loop. If you already feel like you're not good enough that's not a good place to start try and be more positive :).

But on the other hand if you're from the U. S. you shouldn't go to college for something that doesn't pay a lot. Try and find a cheaper alternative like a community college or something if you want to pursue a career in art. It's not going to be fun when you don't make a lot of money and have a lot of debt hanging over you. At least give yourself a starting point with no debt if possible then you can try and live a low cost lifestyle and give it a shot.

Some artworks I saw irl are just circles, they call it art.

Someone drew a line, called it art.

Someone just brushed different colors all around the canvas, called it art.

Also, that's the reason you want to study that major, to learn. You're still learning, so don't be so hard on yourself. ♥︎

Honestly I studied art and trust me you don't have to be good at it to do well. The only form of art you have to master is the art of bull shit and if you want to become successful either dye young or have a rich mummy and daddy

You can do what you want. If this really interests you and you have a passion for it then my all means pursue it. But please do not take out student loans to pay for college tuition for art degree.

It’s not easy to make it financially in this field and it’s going to be difficult to repay those loans. And taxpayers sure as hell shouldn’t have to repay them for you.

First of all, you have to trust yourself, don't keep telling yourself "I'm not creative" Secondly, if you want to specialize in these subjects, you can take a course. Don't compare yourself to other people and focus only on your own improvement.

I suggest saving the money on college and getting into a trade. Or write a letter to the recruiting officer at a company or profession you aspire to and ask them the skills necessary to succeed at that business and then obtaining them. That's what i did.

Oh my God so many. I bounced around. I was a killer in the military, a chimney sweep, I installed cable, worked in several factories, worked as a Janitor in an accounting firm. Worked my way u to senior accountant in the same. firm. I was a cost accountant for a few years, then a credit analyst. Now I'm a financial advisor.

it's not a scam if u don't have skills to learn , like some people already learnt some skills when they were young but for me i don't have anything , so i guess college or courses are the best option to learns these skills

As a financial adviser, I can tell you the risk reward ratio of college is garbage. 90% of graduates go tens of thousands of dollars in debt to go on to work jobs you don't even need a degree to get. I am a high school drop out and I work in a job you need a degree to get only I was never in debt. That's the definition of a scam.
