What's more difficult to master, chess or poker?

Without a doubt, chess. If you knew nothing about your opponents and only calculated odds, you'd win at poker in the long run. Chess is a different animal altogether. Even though it can be broken down into possible choices and ranked numerically at it's most critical moments, it's still more difficult than poker in my opinion.
Interesting thoughts. Thank you
Sure thing!
Poker. It requires deceit through bluffing that is not easy to just put on. I've been playing chess for years and while I'm no Magnus Carlsen I am a pretty good player. It takes a lot of learning but chess is fairly easy to get the hang of with practice, plus you learn how to predict what the other player is likely to do.
Well put. Thank you
Both chess and poker have their challenges, but they differ in nature. Chess requires strategic thinking, foresight, and memorization of openings and patterns. It's a game of complete information, where outcomes depend purely on skill. Poker, on the other hand, involves probability, reading opponents, and adapting to incomplete information, as luck plays a part alongside strategy. Mastery in both demands dedication, but chess leans towards deep theoretical knowledge, while poker emphasizes psychological insight and adaptability. 🎲♟️

Poker is a matter of statistics and luck, knowing what cards go together best and putting it together but you have no control over which hands get dealt. It’s equal ground and everyone is at the mercy of the dealer. Everything from there is just a matter of tricking people into believing you when you bluff.
Chess involves a lot of actual strategy, you can’t treat two opponents the same. It’s far from equal and very much a learned skill. And much more difficult to master as a result. I’ve never won a chess game, not even against a computer on “easy” mode. The closest I’ve come is a draw. I’ve won more than a few friendly poker games though.
I think it's a bit more clear to define what a master in chess, in fact... there's a lot of competitions of high level for it, and also defined ranks for the true masters out there
and poker is not regulated the same way... there are of course, great players who have been great for a long time, but there's also great gamblers who have done great at times
which is the master of these? the ones who withstand and succeed, or the one who manages to beat these who withstand and succeed? lol
Poker. I play chess and am not world class by any stretch, but was once Expert level, now low Class A, high Class B. There is no element of "luck" in chess. In poker, you have to have certain skills of deception, but if you ar dealt a bad hand you can't magically make it a winning hand.
they kinda flex different muscles really. in poker you gotta master the art of bluffing. and with chess you gotta be able to predict your opponents moves steps ahead.
i guess i'll say chess if forced to choose. it is very difficult unless you're a genius or savant to just know every possible move ahead of yours in order to achieve checkmate.
Not a master at either one but I do play both and I think chess is a bit more of a brain twister
Poker is all about understanding the general premise and practicing every situation through trial and error
Chess. Poker takes a bit of luck, but chess is 100% skill. You start at equal, and your choices and your opponent's choices determine who wins. I had a really good chess player at my high school. He once won two concurrent chess games while blindfolded. He was able to visualize the location of every piece on two boards at the same time and win against someone who could actually see.
Probably chess. I was a poker player for years. Since the goal is making money. It isn't a game about being THE BEST. It's a game about mathmatics/odds, psychology, patience, and knowing your opponent. You're not trying to go head to head with guys your skill level or better. Your trying fleece the less skilled players.
Both chess and poker require a high level of proficiency if you are ever going to master either one.
The game, itself, chess. The game of your opponents mind, poker.
Yikes!! Master? Having played both for almost 4 decades I think that's the hardest question that's ever been asked here!! Legit HAFTA say both equally.
I think chess is. Poker does have some chance built into it where chess does not
Chess is more difficult to master, for poker is a game of chance not strategy.
