My nephew, 14 years old, perfectly understands the strategy game I am working on. What do you think?

Okay, so he is on pace to be his class's valedictorian, but he does understand my game very, very well. So much for the 40-something years olds on this site saying it was too hard to understand.

Your nephew is probably not typical of most people relative to his level of intelligence and understanding. I don't think you can count on the fact that everybody that's interested in your game is going to be able to figure it out based on all the stuff you've written here so far.

In a partial win for YOU, I've taken Rolling Retreat back out of the game. I found it's too hard to write rules to make the idea fair.

Instead, I added "Defensive Intercept" which allows combat units within sight radius of a mini-battle to move 1 or 2 spaces towards the mini-battle each mini-round, so that they get a chance to participate in a battle. This in combination with Attack of Opportunity provides enough Defender's Advantage, and is less complicated to write the rules.

I gave Light Cavalry an upgrade called "Charge" which adds 1to their move per turn, and makes them immune to Attacks of Opportunity, this way foot archers won't beat Light Cavalry cost-effectively.

I've made changes to the game which make half the damage each turn permanent and half is determined randomly. This way, experts still have a slight edge, but "chance" can temporarily give a noob the edge if the expert gets a below average roll at the wrong time.

His intelligence level may be high, my friend, if he is interested in strategy, he is quite experienced ^^
