1) its the holidays, let your superficial behaviour go for 1 month out of the year and stop shitting on everyones celebrations.
2) its easy to tell children that santa only gets fat after eating all the cookies.
3) a kids not going to notice a cheap suite.
4) stores are not contractually obligated to provide a santa, they do it for holiday cheer for GRATEFUL people.
5) yes stores make millions. But those millions go to a headoffice or board of directors, the stores themselves probably only get a very limited budget for the holiday celebrations.
6) the poor dude sitting in that suite is probably doing it to provide presents for his family this Christmas...
7) dont sit on santas lap if it pisses you off so much...
8) majority of children this year will not get to sit on santas lap because they dont have parents, are in court mandated orphanages or their parents are just too damn broke to go buy them a present so be grateful you can!

The kid doesn't seem to mind much. As long as they don't think it's rubbish I don't see why it should matter so much. If it was someone hired to play santa and his costume looked like that, then I can see the problem with the employer not getting the quality they paid for. But this doesn't seem to be the case.
And my sister was terrified of a perfectly normal Easter bunny costume as a child, so I don't think it will really matter how messed up the costume looks if it's just a guy doing it for the family, so long as the heart behind it is in the right place.
It could be Santa was caught drinking in public, which is illegal in Californication. You'd think the Hollywood capital of the USA was a whore state like Nevada, but nay. They're trying to keep things conservative and making it difficult to street party.
