I've got a theory. We all know pets wait at the door or window for their owners to come home. Even if they know a visitor comes every day at 12 they'll look out for them.
But have you noticed pets always hog the fireplace? Who are they waiting for? Obviously it has to be Santa. I reckon he can't eat all those Mince pies and cookies, especially the shit ones so he feeds them to pets to keep them quiet.
In olden days people lived in caves or a lean to of some sort. They cooked out doors. The animals realized there was food to be had by the fire. Those animals passed that information on to their young. It's still being passed on. That's why animals wait by the fire. These days they realize there's food to be had at the kitchen or dinning room table, so they check that out first then wait by the fire. Really, it's true. I saw it on the internet.😉
They know Santa comes on Christmas morning so they lie in wait. They want to attack him when he comes down the chimney, just like they do when the UPS driver, mailman and pizza delivery guy come to your door. They think they protecting you.
That's why you only get coal for Christmas, purplepoppy. It's not because you've been bad. It's because Santa carries it with him to throw at mean dogs so he can get away.
No they only do it when it's cold because that's where they like to lay down and lick their balls they don't want a cold tongue going on their balls they want to be cozy warm
