We've already seen all the questions about our favorite Christmas traditions, our favorite things to do with our families, and so forth. Some of us may love every minute of it.
But some of us dread certain things...
For me, it's singing Christmas carols with my mom's side of the family. I never really liked doing it to begin with, but now that we're not traveling to Chicago, it's even worse! Why? Because now we're doing it over Zoom.
That means people logging in late. It means audio and video going in and out or lagging. It means people not knowing whether they're muted or not. It means my dad writing stupid messages on the lyrics sheets in the Google drive. It means a year and a half of banter between songs. It means my cousin (bless her heart) trying but failing to use a ukelele to keep everyone on key. It's... a...MESS!!!
So, to singing Christmas carols, I offer a great big loud and proud...Also, Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
The music gets worse every year. The sentiments get less sincere every year.
My days are NOT merry and bright! If I don't give myself AIDS and make Pfizer even richer, I won't get paid for sick leave at work anymore!
In NYC, military vets can't eat a sandwich at Subway that they actually paid for without getting arrested by DeBlasio's brute squad, just because they refused to inject AIDS worms into their arms to make Pfizer richer! Seriously, I hate that I'm expected to buy something for SO's, family, friends to prove I give a shit about them. My actions throughout the rest of the year do that well enough.
I'm not a grinch, just fairly anti-capitalist. I enjoy Christmas time.. the music is mostly cheerful, sometimes somber, and the message is peace and goodwill towards men. Not gifts.
I hate waiting until Christmas to give gifts or even wrapping them for that matter. I dont like surprises and I see no point in making them wait for an arbitrary day.
The exchange of gifts, honestly. I like spending time with my family on Christmas, watching Christmas movies, sitting together at the table for dinner, helping to cook, and all those little things. To me, that's the important part of the holiday. But I don't really like to give or receive gifts. We could cut that whole part out and I'll be happier.
The music in stores, which comes earlier every year. I’ve gotten to the point that I wear a pair of Powerbeats 4 in stores during the season. It helps, but I still need to take them off to check out.
My grandad gets us older kids scratchies every year. It feels wrong and rude to tell him I'd rather the money he spends on them. I think the most I've won is $20, this year it was $8 from $30 worth of scratchies.
The materialism and selfishness. It's not officially traditional but it happens every year just the same.

all of them because we don't do them because we are a broken family. unfortunately. even tho i'm a full grown ass adult, it still hurts me. Christmas sucks man.
