Do guys really mean it when they say don't get them a Christmas gift?

I asked a guy I'm close to for gift suggestions. He said he'd encourage me not to bother and would be happier if I bought myself something that made me happy. He spends a lot of time alone on holidays and doesn't get too enthused by them. He also has a tendency to not want to be a "bother" to those around him.

I'm wondering if he is just saying this because he genuinely doesn't want anything or because its just something people say when asked.

My husband of 30 years has said this too and I think its important to get someone a little something to show you care. Especially, since he spends the holidays alone.

Honestly if a guy says that he generally means it. But I agree with the other opinion, if you do want to get him something just make it practical, t-shirt, golf balls, stuff like that. Or even just a gift card for coffee
