This idea just crossed my mind, after watching a Georgian movie, about a woman doing that.

Wouldn’t it be a wonderful way to celebrate the New Year? By being a miracle in someone’s life, without advertising it on social media, just you and them, enjoying your time…

Or have a nice dinner with the lonely elderly.

You won’t be alone and they won’t be alone either.

If it can be done it safely, yes. Not something I’d recommend someone of your stature does alone for others larger than yourself, but your heart is in the right place.

I’m not entirely sure of all the cultural differences between the US and China. In the US, usually it’s homeless men that you see if they’re not in a general shelter. Homeless women usually find shelters specifically for women whose locations are kept undisclosed.

You could donate to a cause of your choosing from afar. I don’t have much, but I donate what I can. I set up BING search engine points to forward the funds to Johns Hopkins University. I also donated some towards the American Cancer Society.

There is a popular Youtuber called PhysicsGirl who has released a lot of content I’ve enjoyed over the years. She came down with “long” CoVid this year and has been bed ridden for months. Her husband has been her primary caretaker.

Again, I can’t afford much, but I purchased an annual subscription to help out her and her husband. It’s people like that who need support so she can resume doing what she loves. I think her husband is an unsung hero being a full time caretaker.

It would, at least in theory, but... a lot of homeless people aren't just normal folks who fell on rough times, or at least aren't that way any more. You've got the crazies, the drug addicts, and the outright dangerous criminals mixed in with everybody else.

There's also the fact that sanitary facilities are often unavailable, and you wind up smelling pretty damned ripe early on- I've been homeless myself (briefly), and know what I'm talking about. A lot of restaurants wouldn't even let you in.

That said, taking an occasion to do something compassionate like that is by no means a bad idea, and I don't want to discourage it; it just needs some tweaking.

I think I at somepoint saw some YouTuber do something like that.
But like a step furter and rented a room for a while so they can rest and freshen up and such and some new clothes etc.

it’s so hard to want to help those who are out there. It doesn’t really work in reality.
easier to give them food.
one time, he and I were in the process of getting back together…he went and helped a homeless lady… he caught Covid from her…he became very sick for a long long time.
he tried to get a homeless father working for him… the guy was not reliable… these people are on the street for reasons we don’t know… I wish I know how to help them… but it seems too much negativity than positive.
we just decided to donate money to organizations that we trust.

often… I see these behaviors best to be fixed at a young age.
it’s a greater issue than us individuals can do.

If you know one and trust one but they are homeless for a big reason! Not to be trusted and not mentally stable even without worrying about them having an addiction!

One day me and my sister, niece we went to McDonald's to eat, and this elderly man was sitting by himself, and he kept running to the bathroom, so I went over and asked him if he wanted me to buy him a meal, and he said yes, and I bought him a meal and drink he thanked me and I come to think of it I think he took our local bus line to our City, and he was having problems wondering where he was at but to this day I am happy I made someone's day, but I never saw this man again.

Yeah, that's one of the best things humans can do.. Be selfless and bless somebody else.. You not only bless them, but yourself as well because the well being of somebody else besides you is on your mind...

With that being said... I don't know about the "homeless" population in Chicago.. Especially since most of them are actually drug addicts and smell worse than a corpse dipped in rat dookie. I would hope to gift them being sober and helping getting off of their feet..

you remind me of an episode in series big bang, they volunteered at a soup kitchen, giving food on some holiday. that is more realistic then the many risks in your suggestions.

I've shared food with homeless folk on rare occasions before, but I'd never make a thing of it. I mean it isn't some sort of a special event. It is just something that happens when it happens and doesn't happen when it doesn't, and generally relies on my being reasonably confident that they're not going to push their luck.

I did that with 48 people for Christmas you need to find the folks that have not given up though. You can help them because they are still trying. Someone that gave up it won't matter

How do you find the ones that haven’t given up?

A lot of work. I also am slightly more experienced with it than some as I spent 4 years homeless at 18-22. I would approach a group and start asking them questions. Things like "what lead to you being homeless?" "Have you been looking for work despite the situation?" "If you were contacted right now for a job and they needed you 5 days a week would you show up every day?" Etc... the ones who gave up are more obvious as they are higher than a kite and completely non functional. With the rest it is hit or miss. So a few questions goes a long way. Some of the homeless are kids (15-18) who were kicked out by their families for being gay, lesbian, bi. For failing in school, not getting a scholarship etc. So my wife and I step in and help them if they are open to it. To date we have helped 73 homeless people get jobs their own apartment they have stable income, food, clothes etc now. The 48 we had for Christmas we have just started meeting with them one on one to figure out their strengths, what they like, what they can do. Some of them I may take under my wing if they like the work I do. Over the next probably 6-8 months we will be getting them set up with a place to stay a job food clothes etc and hopefully they will be back on track.

It's always disheartening to see when people are just outright rude and extremely judgmental to the homeless. I encourage people to watch some youtube interviews on homeless. It can happen to anyone..

People forget that they're still someone's sister, brother, daughter, son, etc..

Whoa... That sounds like a perfect idea. Would sound even better for me if I were to invite a homeless girl, I guess, unless she decided to press some charges against me afterwards (yeah, too much anime and other wholesome stories where being kind to people is safe or even pays off). And I will stay with the restaurant. The gift of time and trust. Not just some material one.

I used to work at a gas station and took a couple of local homeless veterans that were regular customers to restaurants. I did it so they could feel like regular people again and not feel dehumanized.
