I'm sure there are other holiday specialities; Boxing Day is in the UK, and Kwanza is celebrated on consecutive days, as is Hannukah. How about you?
My own family always celebrated on Christmas Eve, and my Mom would cook a big roast pork butt, make pasteles (plantain and root vegetable dumplings filled with seasoned pork meat and raisins), and arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), and the most delicious rice pudding for dessert. It was a big feast. Then on Christmas Day we'd open our presents and play with our toys for the day. It's a nice memory for me.
