Engagement ring is a precious memory; it has nothing to do with cost or price. Never think to ask him to change (till marriage). There are several things possible here. Your ring is not defective at all. One chance is you are allergic for one of the metal or stones used in making it. This is not so uncommon occurrence. The first of the factors is if one has a higher acidic diet, which affects the chemicals released from the body. Another factor that can affect the chemical reaction is mixing your personal sweat, lotions, etc. There are a few steps that you can take to prevent and hopefully eliminate the reaction. Consuming less of the acidic foods can reduce this reaction, but this is a long term solution. Making sure that your hands are clean and dry is also something to keep in mind. Removing your ring prior to washing your hands, doing the dishes, etc is one more solution. Most easy and practical solution is - you can paint a thin layer of clear nail polish or any quick fix adhesive – epoxy based or acrylic based - on the inside of your ring. This creates a barrier between your skin and the ring. You may remove the coating and reapply a fresh coat every 2 or three months. of clear nail polish. It is as simple as it sounds. I hope that I am able to share some helpful insights and tips on how to address a ring that turns your finger black! Stay up to date with all things – your Love and Promise. Stay fabulous.

i know you don't care about the price, but marriage is "supposed" to last "forever" so you would expect the ring to hold up more than a few months... yikes.
If that is a silver ring then you should know that is normal. Silver oxide is grey/blackish and will stain everything it touches. This is why I don't wear silver cufflinks anymore unless the shirt is itself dark grey. Sometimes a touch of mineral oil will help but since it's a ring that probably won't work. It might be worthwhile if you can find someone to plate it in gold for you.
Its probably real silver and the greyish tint is an oxidation layer (or rust), accelerated by your sweat.
You can easily remove it with silver polish or i think baking soda (google how to clean silver).

You need to tell your fiance and have him get his money back or an exchange. It is not good metal. xx
It's a piece of junk, buy something in gold or platinum maybe sterling silver if money is an issue
sell it at a flea market or on ebay. it's gold plated junk that tarnishes and causes the skin to turn green from the cheap alloy metal combination used.
Tell him to buy another that can last more time.
