1. Marriage is outdated 2. Men dont have a weird fantasy related to getting married... nor getting r*ped like women 3. Women think they can wait till 30-40 to get married which isn't true, men dont want them when theyre that old and used
"Marriage is like putting your hand in a bag of snakes hoping to pull out an eel" that is a quote from the renaissance. Marriage has always sucked ass.
The idea of child support and alimony have been around for thousands of years.
The Code of Hammurabi (1754 BC) declares that a man must provide sustenance to a woman who has borne him children so that she can raise them:
137. If a man wish to separate from a woman who has borne him children, or from his wife who has borne him children: then he shall give that wife her dowry, and a part of the usufruct of field, garden, and property, so that she can rear her children. When she has brought up her children, a portion of all that is given to the children, equal as that of one son, shall be given to her. She may then marry the man of her heart.
Yikes, people really need a reading education around here...
I said the idea of child support and alimony have been around for thousands of years.
*double checks* yep. Yep thats what I said.
Please point to the part where I said anything about it being the basis of international divorce law. I'll wait. Not too long though because I dont want to wait forever.
Now, that being said let me explain alimony to you. It's gender neutral. It doesn't care if you are a man or a woman. It doesn't care if you are married to the same gender you are or not. It only says "who makes more? Cool, we are gonna reallocate that between both parties because there is a certain level that both have been accustomed to living at."
Now comes the other half of this which is what I believe your complaint is, but don't blame alimony for this. Women predominantly receive alimony. Why? Because men make more money, even when doing the same job in some cases. In others, the couple decided on a more "traditional" arrangement with him working and her being the one to care for the home and kids.
Alimony just helps in 2 main areas. It ensures that the higher wage earner can't force a person to become so dependent on their spouse that they can't leave without being homeless (especially important in abuse cases). It also ensures the higher wage earner doesn't just cut ties and leave the other person with nothing just because they found something younger and more attractive.
I am waiting for you to make any sort of poignant argument to begin with.
Also, it would have been more honest for you to say you have no comeback for the truth. Believe your narrative if you'd like. I won't stop you, but let's be honest about what this really was that happened here.
Marriage rates have fallen by more than half since the 1970's. So it's simple cause and effect. People aren't more faithful. There's just a less people getting married ergo a lot less divorces to be had.
@Nomoturtle Many reasons, erosion of family values, inflation with stagnate wages, etc. But also it's another unintended consequence of Feminism. Feminism has increasingly made men absolutely to a woman. No evolution-wise women have not changed. But women ever increasingly can call all the shots. She doesn't need a man for anything longterm. It used to be a woman aspired to marry well. Now she can have it all why marry? She can pick and choose what guy and for how long. This has left many men partnerless with little reason to try to change the status quo as women are now their competitors in the workplace. So not only are women are taking a percentage of what used to be men's livelihood. But it's worse than that. Women's expectations of a man do not shrink. So if a woman makes 50k and a guy makes 50k. She expects double of him. She looks down on him if he doesn't make more then her. Unfortunately her being in the workforce has siphoned of anymore HD could make. You get it now? P. s. this is NOT a judgment. Just an analysis. I'm not suggesting women remain housewives. Just pointing out there's cause and effect. They got feminism and now this is the effect
Divorce boomed and a lot of people growing up saw it. That makes men much more hesitant to marry due to risk. Women have online dating which encourages most women to chase a small percent of men as well. Hookup culture also damaged dating which impacts marriage rates.
I only wish my nephew figured this, who was married for 20 years and has 4 kids. His wife took the house and the kids, and she would've gotten the dog if they had one. She had a good lawyer, he didn't, and he is supposed to be an accountant.
I'm married and all of my friends are married. I don't really see a decline at all among my social circle. I don't know very many single people. Maybe the single people are just ugly?
The world is moving at a faster pace. People are able to do more with their lives. Being commited to someone often limits some options. Therefore people are divorcing to seek their own paths in life. This was not previously an issue.

The fact that people realize marriage isn’t all that necessary
Rate is massive declining since covid started and governments work now even slower than I thought was possible...
Rates were going down even pre covid

They are running out of those little rocks you put on engagement rings
Marriage has become a ridiculous gamble on your future financial well being (for men).

@MrPlentiful yeah but medieval man didn't have to worry that the courts would garnish his wages.
Yeah in fact there was a medieval king who had many of his wives beheaded because they werent giving birth to sons
You could do anything back then to women
Also, time to do some education here : )

Didn't stop men from getting married before...
If you think the Hammurabi code was used as a basis of divorce law internationally then you need education.
Alimony has been around for years because it was necessary. Women couldn't work.
In the last 30 years it has become a one sided joke at man's expense.
Yikes, people really need a reading education around here...

I can't argue with this level of wilful stupid...

Yes, but that's the question: why are fewer people getting married?
@Nomoturtle Many reasons, erosion of family values, inflation with stagnate wages, etc. But also it's another unintended consequence of Feminism. Oh wow according to a lot of people, they are skyrocketing. That’s what I hear on lots of Red Pill/MGTOW.
Because we're at record low marriage levels. Hence, divorce is down.
Well... yeah... but that only answers half of it 😊
Divorce boomed and a lot of people growing up saw it. That makes men much more hesitant to marry due to risk. Women have online dating which encourages most women to chase a small percent of men as well. Hookup culture also damaged dating which impacts marriage rates.
Millennials are still a Younger Generation. Only time will tell whether the Marriages last or not.
Marriage isn't what it used to be and more people just have friends with benefits instead.
Average marriage age increasing and fewer people getting married.
All of it adds up well enough to assume. It apparently is an issue for the future however.
Ah yeah the pandy probably imprisoned a lot of people even further as such. I rarely find anyone worried over the pandemic tbh though.
I heard a saying that goes. "Its Cheaper To Keep Her"
I only wish my nephew figured this, who was married for 20 years and has 4 kids. His wife took the house and the kids, and she would've gotten the dog if they had one. She had a good lawyer, he didn't, and he is supposed to be an accountant.

Less people getting married means less divorces can get filed
I read somewhere that the less people are marrying now a days, so that could be the major issue.
It is too expensive to split up and take care of the children.
None of those reasons. It’s just because of less people getting married
... well.. yeah.. but the question is why are they not getting married? What is causing the decline.
I don't know. I think more and more people are getting away from society norms and just doing their own thing
Fair enough! Thank you for your response : )

And what incentive do women have to get married?
Extra Income
Alimony
Housing
