I don't have a husband, but I would want him to be my protector mainly. However, usually when there's two people together, it's already a lot safer than when one is alone. But still, I choose protector. I've given up on the idea that I can find men to watch romance movies with (and who actually enjoys them). It's more important if they are willing to drop everything to wait with me at the hospital if I need him to be there.

If I was a husband I would be the protector. If a woman works out and learns martial arts, she would STILL be much less capable in a fight than most men. If some feminist delusional person disagrees I would gladly fight her for real on that street beefs channel in an area where it is legal to prove the point.

Anyways, men and women DO have certain roles/abilities that are better suited to one over the other. They are not now and never have been equal in abilities. Men and women are DIFFERENT. She can still contribute to safety, but will never be equally as capable. Just like I can take care of kids well, but NOT as well when they are sick because women more often handle germ sicknesses better than men so they are more suited to helping a kid when they are sick. Each have their different abilities.

We are companions, but not equally suited for all roles.

I would say a mutual companion. Women are no less than men and they are perfectly capable of fending for themselves, so I wouldn't say a protector. A husband is like someone you want to be with for the rest of your life, hence, why you marry them.
