Is it wrong for a woman to change her last name to her husband’s last name?

Seems like women are totally against other women doing this. Honestly, if I were to get married, I want to change my last name. Unless, my future husband says he wants my last name, I have no issue with that either. I don’t care either way.
Yes times have changed, but y’all need to take a chill pill and communicate with your man and not treat him like he’s some sort controlling abusive person.

Sometimes I wonder who you're talking to with these strange views on everything.

I don't know if you'll find too many people who feel it's "wrong."

Many women choose not to change their name, which, is perfectly fine.

But it is traditionally what's done, and it's still the "usual" thing to do.

I don't know the stats on it, but it's certainly still a popular choice. Taking the stance that it's "wrong" is a very extreme, super fringe belief. I'm not saying nobody out there feels this way. I'm just saying anyone who feels so strongly opposed to a woman changing her name that it's "wrong" is in such a minority, that unless you're in a situation where you're looking at marrying someone like that... it's an opinion not worth worrying about. It's silly.

I'd prefer my wife to take my last name. If she felt super-strongly that she wanted to keep her last name... alright. It's not like a deal-breaker or anything. Just a preference. 🙂

The main reason why a woman takes her husband's name is so that their children will have one name, and continue the male lineage. If no children will be involved, there's no reason to do that/ Plus, if a woman has a career, she is probably best known as her maiden name, so again, it makes to not change it.

In any case, it's her choice to take her husband's name or not.

Not that I'm charging at anyone who does but it's not something I advocate for doing and it's not something that I am doing in my personal life.

I almost find it funny how people think a surname change means anything in terms of family values. I come from a very conservative Muslim culture with much stronger family values and overall a collectivist culture and we don't do that.

Its not wrong. Its traditional. Some women hyphenate the names. Some keep there last name for business purposes but legally have husbands name. I don't know why some women are against it. Never met a woman that has. EV1 has taken their husbands last name. Never met a man that took his wife's name.

Its actually the common practice for her to do that, its simblelizes that you are a team working together your kids take the name so you are one united group aka a family its a very old tradition
unless you're a famous celebrity and your name is your trademark
Where do you think the phrase "was/whats her maiden name" meaning before she married
A lot of women will even keep their husband last name even after they get a divorce

Actually, in legal matters in my country especially after the computerized records. They left no flexibility to do so. Women have to keep the name written on there CNIC
