1. What if by killing someone, you saved a lot of other people from dying?
2. There's no reason to not do what I've suggested as long as it's ethical
3. Sex before marriage isn't wrong; there's no basis at all for that.
4. So you agree that this is just mumbo jumbo with exceptions?
5. The point was to show a slippery slope. Everyone who has taken any chemical compound has done drugs, by definition. And I get a nice buzz of caffeine similar to marijuana, so it's not different.
Five precepts are nonsense, and I laugh at their illogicality
1. how to define harm? Define it as Socrates did perhaps? If so, harm is only the appearance that something is harmful, and so your appearances harm you.
2. I will take any ethical advantage I can get, even if I just found it on the ground and it was not given to me.
3. Nothing wrong with sex
4. Lie could potentially reduce the amount of "hurt" that people experience
5. What about caffeine, or theanine, or pharmaceticals?
Thanks for writing this.:) My mom's from Burma, and my father's from China. Those monks in Burma who kill are not real monks. Real Buddhists don't force their beliefs on others, human error aside. I think those who feel threatened by this, who believe that science is the only answer (As if science is at the highest point it can be right now, as if science can't change), are why they think you're forcing this on them (you're not).
Hannah, then everyone is a buddhist if you can just pick and choose particular things you like about it, which then define you as a buddhist. I mean that kind of ambiguous definition means Buddhism is meaningless.
Concerning the main point of this, I find that a person who just decided to possibly get into buddhism really has no means to actually discuss it. You just pasted things off the internet, it's mindless really.
Of all the major "religions", I tend to admire Buddhism the most. To me it seems like a solid way to live. It's not something I'd want to dive into completely, but its ethics line up with my own pretty well. If it works for you rock on!
I'm glad it's helping you. It's a nice peaceful tradition to follow, all about self improvement which I think all religions should be about - worshipping ourselves.
I agree Rushfan. Buddha's want to reach nirvana in order to stop endless reincarnations to stop endless suffering, so they do believe it can be stopped with full self improvement and good karma.
Yes it is a nice artwork of spiritual beauty however, Most of the Abrahamic religious followers would see it as idolatry towards Buddha himself. And also have you thought that Buddhism is similar to communism
thtdiablo, buddhism is not a religon but teaching. teacher and student relationship. those buddhist monks that ate animals are not the real monks, there are many fake monks on the street who asked for money from others.
Actually Buddhism does have a god its the Buda the big jolly fat guy is their god they pray to it they meditate in front of statues of it and so on. Also #5 #4 #3 #2 are just things you should do it general.
Sim0nsay5 - I'm glad I intrigued you. :) I did all my research online. Some sites will roughly explain it to you but you can always send me a message if you want to ask anything. :)

1. No killing.
2. If you can't do it, then that's up to you.
3. In this case, this is not talking about sex, but about cheating and sex before marriage.
4. There are exceptions, but they are the exception, not the rule.
5. Caffeine is okay, although it is an attachment. Not sure about the others.

I am a faithful Christian with great respect for diligent Buddhists. I would vote for one running for US President if his policies suited me.
I'm a Buddhist myself an it makes me stay true to reality, aware of karma an believe in the consequence that effect your next life.
Hm...Bhuddism treads lightly. I never knew that it could be an adjunct to another belief system.
Now THAT makes sense!
And give up all worldly things including this ridiculous worldly/ human made philosophy/religion wombo combo.
I even heard bhuddists like the Dali lama believe in bhuddists dieties and I allways thought they were Athiest or agnostic
It does say that you can and should minimise suffering just make your life easier.
She is only sharing what is beneficial for people, she isn't forcing anyone to convert or believe...-_-"
