I was store staff when I was younger.
I used say hello so they know I am around. and Check them from far so when ever they need help I can go over

Oh, you mean old style shops? I only use supermarkets and online shopping, so I probably shouldn't have left a comment. I never have people running after me. If I have to go to an old style shop I just tell them that I'm just looking what they have and they will leave me alone. I think they creep after you because less confident people can be manipulated to buy.
