What does it mean if a guy keeps asking about your boyfriend?

Theres this guy that I sometimes talk to online who goes to my college and nearly every time that we do talk, somewhere along the line he will bring up my boyfriend.

For example he has asked which college my boyfriend goes to and what he does there, he also related what my boyfriend does to what he can also do (play instruments), he has also asked how long we've been going out for, when I told him I was going on holiday for a couple of days he went on to ask me if I was going with my boyfriend.

So I was just curious as to if there's a reason as to why he asks about him? (they do not know each other).

He is sort of seeing a girl, but isn't actually in a relationship with her. We're both 17y/o

Relating himself to your boyfriend - check

Consistantly asking about your partner - Check

I could be mistaken here but he might actually be interested in dating you (or your boyfriend, I'm undecided on that one)

I have female friends that are dating, I don't have the need to ask them about their partners or relationships all the time unless I actually want to be kept in the loop which usually means I'm interested in one of em.

Either that or he doesn't know what to say anymore in conversation and brings up something you'll like talking about till he's got something again.
