What else should I give my mum for her seventieth birthday?

She’s dreading being that old. I know it. It’s also a milestone birthday, so I bought her a designer French handbag and a beautiful rainbow quartz ring. What else should I add, that won’t cheapen what I’ve already bought, when I’m poor? Is a bottle of good champagne appropriate?

If she really dreads being 70, why make a big deal out of it. Take her out to dinner, just the two of you, and have a nice dinner together with nice conversation... and don't talk about her birthday... unless she brings it up.

I'm sure she would rather have some time with you than some fancy gifts.

Spend quality time with her. Make her enjoy the day. A collage kinda of her young pics with family which makes her cherish the memories. Easy to make and not even expensive.
