Is this over the top?

I’ve known a new friend for almost a month. It’s her birthday soon, so I gave her a card, a lip gloss, a mini cupcake and I’m buying her a coffee when we catch up tomorrow. Is a set of pretty hair clips with the coffee too much?

Whoa that's a lot for only knowing a girl a month! The card, lip gloss and mini cupcake are already a really nice thoughtful gift. I'd be worried throwing in hair clips too might seem extra. Like she'll think you're coming on too strong or something.

My advice would be maybe just stick with buying the coffee for now when you hang out tomorrow. That way you're still doing something nice for her bday but it's not overkill, you know? Save the hair clips idea for if you guys start hanging out more regularly. Don't wanna risk freaking her out this early on by being too gifts heavy right away.

Play it cool, let things develop naturally. The coffee is a nice gesture itself. As long as you're enjoying each other's company that's what really matters! She'll appreciate the thoughtfulness regardless I'm sure. Just hold off on the clips til later is my vote!
