How often are gifts thankless?

I got my parents a gift thinking they would love it and it took effort to get, I had to save my money and make spending sacrifices and spend a long time looking for sellers that offered it. And my parents did not even care, they thought the gift was totally pointless.

I also remember when a friend got me a gift she thought I would love, and I did not like it at all. Obviously I did not tell her that, but without even using her gift, I gave it to somebody else at the next holiday party I went to. I was lucky the gift was something you could give away again, cause if it was food, it would not have been possible due to food freshness dates.
