My friend's daughter will be graduated from nursing soon and I want to give her a graduation gift but I am not sure what to give.. I don't want to ask my friend because she will say that it is not necessary but I want to show that I am proud of her daughter and of my friend.. They had a tough life together.. Any suggestions?
Here’s a few ideas:
- a nice insulated lunch box. Nurses never get to eat out, they don’t get to leave the floor to go to the cafeteria in the hospital (you don’t have time), and there is rarely any food available to them. You go into the break room and inhale your food and hope no one bothers you during your break. They always do. Always.
- a nice coffee mug, because you will drink coffee. A lot of it.
- Some kind of long sleeved shirt she can wear under her scrubs. Hospitals tend to be cold, this means that often nurses will wear fleece zip ups and things like that to stay warm. The only problem is that it’s nursing. You’re dealing with piss/blood/pus/feces/urine/vomit/and every other foul fluid and excrescence of the body. So the fleece can’t be too nice, and unfortunately every hospital has their own stupid color coded dress code, so some may allow a fleece, some want it to be the hospital colors 🙄 Many don’t care just so long as it’s not something with logos and writing all over it. But either a breathable long sleeve undershirt (white is always safe) or a fleece.
Other than that, just make sure she has some good scrubs and shoes. Extra pockets on scrubs are always nice. You’re perpetually carrying so many things it comes in handy.
Don’t ask me how I know these things...🤫

I know a nurse who never had a stethoscope in her career. So that tool of trade is probably not a good choice.
I think something she will like having outside of her new career. Like if a stethoscope was useful she might be given half a dozen because that will be what people think of.
Why not ask your friend what she is buying her daughter. You might get some ideas. Don't overlook a debit card. Cash to buy what she wants will be welcome to an ex student.
When I was attending my university graduation, one gift I really wanted was flowers cause it made me feel feminine and beautiful. My second gift that I wanted was a teddy bear with my school logo on it. I would give her a gift card to a framing store so she can buy a frame to house her school diploma. Our school had different options, you could buy an expensive frame that was very fancy and expensive or a simple frame that was cheaper. Even if she already has a frame picked out for her diploma, she can use the framing certificate for one of her many graduation photos.
Money, lol.
My friend graduated last year and I gave her a coffee advent calendar, Turkish coffee, and cute nurse compression socks cause that’s what she likes.
For others if you’re not sure what they like, money is greatly appreciated.

some self care things (face masks, spa day, lotion, hair masks, etc). i'm sure she's tired and neglected her self care for years going to nursing school
ask the daughter. give her a budget and say you WILL be spending that money on her, and you'd prefer it go to things she's actually want
Pay off her loans if you're in the states. If not she's gonna have some LLLLOOOONNNGGG night shifts ahead of her and coffee, book n shopping will be in her future so Amazon, Barnes n nobles n Dunkin donuts would be great presents I think.
In my opinion I believe a gift basket would be cute with some skin care products and perfume. I always make gifts sets on all occasions.
An artificial boob feeding kit?
Anything nice and perhaps personal that's NOT related to medical professions :D
How about... hmmmm... a box of good quality 'chocolates' and a bottle of excellent wine?Birth control... condoms... dildoes...
I mean, we know what these nurses be getting up to.Some nice scrubs, or a gift card to a medical equipment store. A nice pen light
What about an ornamental stethoscope in a display case?
Whenever I’m looking for a specific gift, I go to Amazon and type in what I’m looking for. In your case, I’d search up something like “gifts for a new nurse.”
Cash or a gift card are always safe.
