Nine great gifts to leave my girlfriend while I go to Basic Training?

Hey everybody, I'm going to be going to basic training in January. It's a nine week long thing so I want to get my girlfriend nine gifts. Just so you can gauge what kind of presents I'm thinking of the one I'm working on now is a list of one hundred reasons why I like/ love her.

Another one I'm thinking of doing is an audio book, but that's been surprisingly hard. So if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Oh, that is adorable :) I like lool's list, but just to get some more input in there- I wouldn't do an audio book- just because it seems really daunting and I'd rather hear the voice of the guy I loved while he was talking about something he was passionate about than when he's trying to be clear/enunciate- you know, so you can hear the smile in his voice. You could shorten that list and tape yourself (video or audio) saying the list, and that'd probably be really cute. Maybe 9 of her favorite things in a box (like, candies or something.), or maybe one with every thing you get her. Since you're going to be missing one of your monthly anniversaries at least, maybe get her some jewelry or a small present (slightly more extravagant than the others) and tell her happy blahblahblah anniversary with a small card.

I'd lead with something substantial- like, if you did a video, an audio recording and a picture of yourself I'd do it in that order, so she could be let down more gently than having you physically gone. Anyways, super cute idea, I'm sure she'll like what you give her no matter what, so don't stress!

If you can't make an audio book you could make her a photo book with pics of your favorite memories together and some sweet words. There are many affordable personalized gifts out there, like calendars (since you leave in January) with your photos and marked special dates, heart-shaped magnets or pillow/cushion cases with images of the two of you together etc. I once made a fleece blanket with a collage of pictures for someone very special to me.

I'd cut down the list to 9 reasons and remove it as a solo gift. Add another gift so you're back to nine, and with each gift include one reason from your list. Tell her to open just one present per week.

Well a huge bunch of flowers is always nice, maybe a collage of loads of photos of the two of you, you could write her a poem/loveletter (cheesy but reeaally cute), perfume, jewellery, sorry I cant think of more but this is such a sweet thing you're doing for her I'm sure she'll love whatever you get her

I think it would be best to provide some kind of reassurance you want to keep her but it might be a good idea if you were open to seeing other people. That way if one or the other screws up it's not a big deal and no bridges are burned. If she knows how you feel about her but just gets lonely, then she won't feel like crap for fooling around. And she'll also know you are just as open to fool around with one of the many very horny young women who are also in the service.

A little wry humor makes sense... but not all women suck.

I think a little realism is in order, even if it's cynical. I had an angel at home for boot camp/infantry school, and a friend who was just fine with keeping her company when I was away. About four weeks into things, I stopped receiving any letters, and eventually found out what had happened. They slipped up.

I'd bought flowers, wrote poems, gave the teddy bear, and made the promises of commitment, and got them back. Just saying.
