Very few are actually valuable. They are like any other collectible items. Made for tourist. Appreciate it for what it is, a good memory. Those are priceless.
By the way, the Reason they have lids is because at the time it was thought that flies carried the plague. So they put tops on their cups to prevent flies in their drinks😊
the text is just a platitude. "der dorfgelehrte" means "scholar of the village" and could hint towards a particularly educated person who originally owned this mug. are there an markings? like in the bottom?
yeah. i'm not exactly an expert but this looks like very basic painted earthenware. no complex glazing, multi material or multy layer techniques. i'd say it'll make 50 bucks on ebay at max. realisticly 20-30 bucks tho.
like as the saying on the mug said. everyone used to have such a thing. it's a mass production item. there's only very few notable manufactures that interest collectors.
yeah some Villeroy & Boch ones even go for 500 but yours doesn't have any the signs of the more valuable one that mentioned in my previous comment. so if you wanna be realy sure, get a real expert opinion but getting that might cost you more than the thing is worth.
These are more Bavarian than German, and yes, they are souvenirs for tourists. HB means it’s from the official Hofbräu brewery which has a number of beerhalls in Munich.

My friend who died last year on his Harley had a collection he started in the 80s. You reminded me of that. I hadn't thought about that since the late 80s.
My grandpa collected those, he made many trips to Germany. He was obsessed with Germany. What you have looks to be a tourist souvenir
