Do you like car boot sales?

I like to wander about them, and occasionally, I buy something. But I've never sold anything at one.

How do you feel about them? Junk and stolen stuff or interesting bargains? Most interesting stall I saw was an old lady with a collection of antique jolly sambo money boxes. Miracle no one kicked off.

Swap meets function a lot like that, i think. I’ve never been, but i have gone to flea markets and bazaars. Similar, but different. I would rather shop yard and garage sales. The markets always seem stocked with cheap, dime store trinkets. While yard and garage sales are more often a collection of a person’s or family’s life. There’s history, and a bit of their story unfolded for rummagers to overlook. Sometimes i buy things i don’t even want or need. I consider it the price of admission to some small part of their lives that they sometimes don’t even realize they’re sharing. The chatty old coots who want to tell a story about every item before it’s sold, they’re my favorites. Run, deal mongers, run! I’m here to stop time and imagine this old, broken toy as it was remembered almost frozen in time by a man who loved it as a child.
Sometimes you can buy priceless things for a nickel.

Sambo, as in little black, yes? A lot to play with here. Used to live up the street from a weekend venue called Trader's Village, but it was more like a flea market with dedicated vendors. Used to be able to get used aircraft mechanic tools there. Far sight from a car boot sale though, much like a yard or garage sale here, really hit and miss but usually some curiosities. As to Sambo, there was a chain of sort of IHOP like restaurants that featured the story boards of the book complete with the tiger turning to butter. Whole genre of things generally around that subject used to be seen pretty regularly, yard jockeys... An aunt used to have a bunch of the stuff... not cool

I like to collect interesting glassware but on such events it's mostly just overpriced trash that belongs in recycling container. We have here in Gdańsk a traditional event since centuries where small traders can sell their stuff. I visit this even regularly but I bought just few interesting things there. With attitude of emotional purchase, chance is very high customers will be ripped off there.

Lurking in internet on auction sites is much more fruiting.

Seeing the picture on this post, I wonder if they already sold the French Crown Jewels? I remember billionaire Ted Turner was often taken to Flea Markets when he was a child and was told by his salesman father to buy something there and before he could leave, sell it at a profit. This is how he learned how to spot deals and be a salesman.

I will go to these to pass some time. Usually we will just buy something there food. Occasionally we will buy something there though. We only go to one of these every two or three years.

Used to be great loved them as a kid but as time went on they became worse. People learnt what's worth something and what's not way easier.
A simple search on a phone can tell anyone. Therefore no more deals or good things to be found. So all their meaning of finding a gem is useless now and becomes just more so.

I'm fortunate I've grown up with no pressure, and being out of the spotlights.

But unfortunately I've no family heirlooms to sell if I fall on hard times.

I go and do everything on my cycle, for fitness and leisure.

I'm also environmentally friendly, (well a little bit) which cars are not.

So if I see a (cycle) boot sale advertised, this will be the one for me.

Many many years ago by pure chance I walked past a BMW, driven by a person of oriental heritage, who had just opened the car boot for some countrymen to reveal hundreds of bootleg DVDs. Of course it was in a deserted street in the middle of the night.

Yeah I'm from Mexico, even over there it is popular , in California I guess it's global now. Tried to sell my stuff , didn't work. I also like looking like you. i bought a few things.
