I've been dating this guy for 6 weeks and it's going very well. He just recently asked me to spend New Years Eve with him. He's not my boyfriend.

Is it considered normal to see a guy for New Years? Or is it special?

For sure it means he likes you. I wouldn't put any pressure on the night, just bring your A+ game, holidays are a big time for anyone. If you put yourself out there and actually want to spend it with someone, then it means something. I'm sure he isn't just "trying to kiss you" cause if you have been dating for 6 weeks, I am assuming you have done more than that.
