Why would my friends with benefits act shy and awkward around me before and after sex?

Before we were friends with benefits we were friends. Not very good friends, but friends in which communication wasn't lacking, he was outgoing, funny, he wasn't afraid expressing himself. We have seen each other more than 10x and he just act very shy and awkward before sex. I can't make out why. Each time doing sex. We see each other only.

For instance, one time we finish sex, I was dressing up. While I was dressing up, I saw him thinking to himself outside the room, he randomly walks in and tells me to get home safe looking straight at me. Then he left and started thinking to himself once more.

Today i finish havng sex with him which was quick. We were done, we usually cuddle afterwards. He started making a phone call, walking in and out as i was dressing up. I got to the door and he saw me thinking to myself and ask what's wrong, i said nothing. He gave me a good bye kiss in the lips and told me to contact him.
