It was confirmed in an episode AND an interview with the writer she dated Marceline along time ago, but after she has become Fin's emotional and physical age she has started returning his affection, which makes her either bi or she was curious and dated Marceline to try it out

Aha what's also cool is Marceline's dad in the show is voiced by her real dad AND the dude who voices ice king really did know the actress for Marceline when she was a toddler so its like real life connections...
